Yo bro, forget to pass you my Archos... nevermind lah, some other day.

THL,

Forget to thank you for the drink, thanks!

Now, back to processing the images.

Cheers

Nice outing... good seeing everyone.

OK, this is just a simple photo to test how sensitive this camera is to IR and whether I can get anything out of it without being able to do a custom wb - this was a 30 sec exposure, so not very good for IR I feel - compared to everybody's modded cams.. hehehe.

Any kind soul want to give my pics a try. Just like Gooseberry I had to do 15 secs exposure (actually he goes up to 30 secs hehe). I've tried processing it on CS2 but I don't seem to be able to achieve what you guys got. The results is horrible. Max suggested that I post my pics here and let you guys have a go at it. If you are successfull then please share what you did to it. Or is my cam unable to take IR shots:think:. Anyway here it is. Thanks for all your help guys. Nice meeting all of you today.

Here's my try:
PICT1405Aamend.jpg

Your shot is still underexposed. Also you can see that rectangular hotspot looking red thing in the lower half of your pix.

What I did is pretty simple:
1. Auto level
2. Auto colour
3. curve, to correct exposure and contrast
4. Channel mix
5. I try to remove the rectangular hotspot thingy by desaturating the red & magenta channel totally in Hue & Saturation.
6. change cyan blue in Hue & Saturation by playing with the Hue level.

Thats is.

Hope this help!

Haha. Looks like I have to follow Gooseberry's settings of 30 sec exposure. I will try different exposure and settings.

My try, giving a tad more blue to the sky and enhance the clouds.

Hey goose,

That's good what? Were you dusing a different camera today? No CWB, 30sec at what aperture?

Modded cam not neccessary give you nice pics 'cos very sensitivity of the camera varies very much with lighting conditions.

Hey teerex,

aperture was f/5.6. This was shot using a D200 - which I already know has a filter pack which blocks out IR really well compared to a D70, just wanted to see if I could get any usable photos out of it though since I couldn't do a custom wb, and the shutter speeds were so long. Think 30 sec exposures are a little too long for my liking.

Hello all, this is my take. Don't know why the sky is grey in colour  ... how do I change it to blue colour? ;)

Hi there,

You can either download Ark19's IR Action which is located under his signature or you can simply do a Channel Mixer Swap for the blue and red channel in Photoshop CS 2 as noted here. :)

Hi crystalberri,

I tried to channel swap your pix, only a slight hint of blue...

Are you one of the canon user and using R72? If yes, next time you shoot, try maxing out the saturation in your camera setting. Then your colour will be more obvious.

The only downside of doing that is that your trees foliage will be slightly coloured, some times its yellowish or orangy, sometimes its redish.

What I do is I desaturate Red and Yellow in Hue and Saturation to get rid of the redish or yellowish tint.

Hope this help.

In the meantime, you can try masking the sky out to change colour.

Hey Max,

I think she is using the Nikon D70s system. I will download and try on my side to see.

Here is my try after doing a Channel Swap and Hue/Saturation to remove the yellow tint on the trees.

I think maybe it is the White Balance. When I do the WB for her, the sky is a bit of overcast. Not much patches of Bright Green. :embrass:
I think still can use PS to push the blue up a little bit or use replace colour option to do it.

Think no point to push up the colours on a gloomy weather IR photo....
Just try to shoot again on a sunny day :)

Thank you for helping me to change the colour. Think I need to study more on how to go about doing tat...

Hi,

Maybe you could post the original unedited photo here and the IR group here can help you try and get the colour in your photo - once you've edited it, it's hard to get the colour back into it.

If you're using a D70 with R72 filter and you did a custom white balance on a patch of grass under the sun, your original image should look something like this

After you follow the channel swap method that was pointed to by Francis above, you should get something like this

239412687_d92f39e93b_o.jpg

But you don't have to follow exactly the same settings, and can play around to get different colours
