the new iPhone 3G S is not just an upgrade of firmware. There is considerable upgrade on hardware as well, in terms of faster RAM, faster processor, better camera, compass etc etc.

upgrading firmware does not give you all that bro....

New iPhone has following hardware changes also:
1) Improved battery life
2) built-in Compass
3) Hardware data encryption
4) 3-megapixel auto focus camera
5) More RAM
6) Faster processor
7) few more....

I've got the iPhone 3G. And I hate it. It's beautiful, but functionality is very limited (no MMS, no voice dialing, can't even forward SMSs...all the things every other mobile phone has been able to do for years. Don't even get me started on the fact you can't change the SMS sound and changing the ringtone is a pain on a PC).

I had a look at the new iPhone 3G S. It's a bit better, but still falls short. You STILL can't surf websites that use Flash. All you get is a stupid little blue box. That's the number 1 thing I hate about my iPhone! And I really wish they implemented the OLED screen like the rumours said would happen. Nokia is doing it. It brings huge savings to battery life.

So r u still using it? Why don't u dump it?

Good question. I am still using it. The reason I haven't switched to something else is because I can't find anything else that is better without sacrificing something.

Which says a lot about the current batch of phones out there. I think they all pretty much stink.

Blackberry has some nice ones out but you only get half the screen size. Same with Nokia.

It's the big crisp display on my iPhone that is the only reason I hang onto it. But by no means am I some Apple fanatic and if something better came out I'd buy it the very same day.

get HTC touch HD then. you get anything a smart phone can have (well... except physical keyboard)

In photography forums, you really don't know how bad 12 MP camera is in a phone?

12 MP bad enough in point-and-shoot compact, let alone something much smaller.

Also very useful if you use maps a lot. The map will orientate itself to show the direction you're facing.

Always 2 years in the U.S.A. though the original iPhone could be used on their pre-paid monthly plan without contract.

nope.... infact I rather lose a little sensitivity then to risk the surface to scratch. that happened to my first PDA (plan pilot) the writting area was scratched by repeated use of stylus... ended up it have problem recognizing my input.

But iPhone dun need stylus, so I just protect it from sweat and oil from my hands and face.
