Introduction to Japanese RF lenses.

No lah! If anyone is to be blamed, then it's Gommy! As usual. I remember when he showed me the Canon 50mm f/1.5 LTM.... my very first interaction with a Canon RF lens. So pretty, so shiny, so heavy. The rest was history....

I do like my Nikkor lenses too! Amongst those in my chicken peanut stash is the 50mm, 85mm and 105mm. They are all nice and perform well. But they do cost more though.......

I am a big fan of the Sonnars. And, have used all the big 3. The Canon 50/1.5, Nikkor 50/1.4, and the CZJ 50/1.5.

The canon 50/1.5: when I had it, it never left my M6. It gives optimal performance at f/2, but a bit soft at f/1.5.

The Nikkor is a marvel. They took the Canon and optimized it for wide apertures. It's sharp at f/1.4 and gives beautiful portraits. But, it also flares a bit, a glowing of the highlights. I never shoot it stopped down below f/2.8. The bokeh wide open is a bit crazy...

finally, the old grand-daddy. The CZJ 50/1.5. This was a Contax mount fitted into a Jupiter shell by Master Sweeney himself. Optimized for close-ups and wide apertures, this is a gem of a lens.

It all depends on what you like. I personally don't prefer the Planar designs a lot. And, sonnars have that mystique about them.

Master Sweeney has also posted a thread on RFF about how the CZJ lens is best suited for M8 because of the frequency response of the lens, matched to that of the sensor. With tests on my M8, the CZJ is sharp, sharper than the Nikkor in close-ups.

VC lenses are quite nice too.
I like smaller ones from the LTM series. There are 2 that are made from solid brass! 28f3.5 & 50f2.5.
The design of LTM series kinda remind me of old enlarger lens.
