hmm... sounds interesting. shouldn't read this thread too often, else would end up jostling with Sniper for one ;p

y dun consider a Used Contax T3 ?
also very quiet and compact in size.

Can this camera take Leica M mount? Does it need separate turret finder if it can be use?

How does the Hexar compare to the Contax G2?
appreciate comments from gurus here :)

I can bet that the T3 delivers sharper and more contrasty pictures thet the Hexar. :D

Anyway, there is one commemorative edition on the window in Digital Point located in Sintec. It is all plated in gold. I betcha that if you hang it around your neck, people will mistaken you for some pimp.

the g2 is more versatile with interchangable lenses, but interms of noise, the G2 sounds like a bomb going off beside a hexar.

I think the G2's viewfinder is smaller and darker than the Hexar too.

I found it difficult to get to grips with the contax focussing. Sometimes it is a bit off. The Hexar has been much more reliable. It focusses where I want it to, but I guess it's not so difficult to focus a 35mm lens. I used the 45mm for the contax, so it's a bit more demanding.

One difference is shooting style with both cameras. With the Contax, you can press the shutter halfway to lock the focus and then wait for the moment. When the moment comes and you take a shot, sometimes you want to take some more. With the G, you just need to release the shutter to halfway position again (not fully) and then take the shot again, and again without moving the camera. Compare with the Hexar where you have to release the shutter button fully and autofocus again. Of course if you are a 'one shot one kill' kind of guy this does not matter. To get around this with the Hexar, need to press the AF button while pressing the shutter halfway, which is kinda troublesome.

However, if you like shooting with the 35mm lens, I believe the Contax G's 35/2 is not that well regarded, as compared with the rest of the G system.

heheh.. great user feedbacks.. I'm not very particular about the fixed focal lens.. infact I like it to be a prime coz it will help me do composition and visual cropping on the fly.

Why I did not consider the Contax (which I think is quite a nice cam oso) or the Leica (this is way off my league) is due to the technicalities and the feel of the cam. I wouldn't want people to eye my camera too much . And the HXR seems to fit the bill snugly for a quiet, stealthy and unobtrusive camera for street. One shot, one kill for me

I've had both. I prefer the Hexar.

I sold the G2 after 1 month - SLR type viewfinder (no framelines), noisy film advance drove me nuts. Apart from allowing you to shoot at slow shutter speeds, the G2 doesn't give you any of the advantages of a RF.

I would really encourage you to consider a MF rangefinder. With the AF models, there is no way you know whether the AF is focussing on what you want. For that reason, I sold off the Hexar too, even though its 35 mm lens was (to me), as good as the Leica that I got to replace it.

Not very true. When I turned up at a relative's wedding dinner with the Hexar, the wedding photog looked at it and said: "Wah, Leica?"

It sure looks like one, sans the red dot.

My Leica M6 looks like an the Konica hexanon rangefinder of 1970s now, after mummifying it with gaffer tapes, the red dot is the first to be covered...

I do have a people problem when using it for weddings...not with my clients but with the client's relatives. They'll ask me why I'm using compact cameras / old fashion ah-peh camera/ obiang camera with no big flash or protruding lenses. Kindda annoying after awhile...

I managed to get around it by hanging an SLR around my neck all the time, kindda lame but that's the way it is.

Czeyang is right about the contax G system if you're looking at the 35mm f2 lens. I was using the 28mm and 45mm Contax G for weddings and the focusing sound is really irritating. Learning how to pre-focus with manual lenses is really fast, in fact much faster than SLR or Contax G system.
