hehe... just wanna see if I can get lucky here.

I'm interested in the Konica Hexar but would like to get some user feedbacks about this compact. I'm not looking at the rangefinder version but just the compact.

How much to get it brand new and 2nd hand?

I know streetshooter and RL has one ... would love to own one for travelling and casual shoots.

http://www.cameraquest.com/konhex.htm -> Beautiful isn't it?

So, do share your experience. Thanks in adv!

I have one :)

What's there to say? It's great. Great lens, fast autofocus, little shutter lag. People think it's a old p&s camera. Silent mode is very quiet. You'll be able to tell which of your negatives come from the hexar.
Negatives? Note that it only has 1/250 max shutter speed. I wouldn't say that it's a compact camera, it's quite big.

All the hexars seem to have the same firmware, and you can upgrade the black to have all the new functions like multiple exposure, and the silver version can also have silent mode. So which version to get is up to you.

I have found some filters cannot be used on the hexar. If it's not compatible, the camera will lock up when focussing at the closest distance.

It almost seems designed to be a camera where you press the shutter button with your third finger while changing the shutter speed or locking the focus with your index finger to make multiple shots, but that's my opinion.

You wanna see how silent?

Dunno if this link will work

I don't think you can get it new now, but I know there's one in a display case at Adelphi... limited edition. There were some at TCW some time back.

wow.. thanks czeyang for the feedback.. any reckoning of the price range then? :)

damn it... the more I read.. the more I want this cam :D

the best thing is that its silent and has a fixed lens that's sharp. I'm not so particular about the max shutter 1/250s unless it's strong sunlight outdoors but again, the articles has stated that carrying a few NDs and the right film around will help solve the problems :bsmilie:

I want this camera!!!

I think the price ranges from $450-$600+. I will sell you the HX-14 flash if you're interested :)

Go sleep & stop thinking of your Hexar.

Apart from the silent shutter (so silent I have to check the frame counter to know whether I actually took the shot or not), it's got a very nice solid brick-like feel to it. I like the fact that the lens does not stick out, and is protected by the built-in hood which slides in and out (and which you can turn to pretend you're focussing manually!).

Anyone knows where to get a proper strap for this camera? The one with the rings at the ends? My SHARP videocam strap does not quite cut it.

Oh, and I find a flash defeats the whole purpose of this camera, which is available light photography. I really appreciate not having to make sure the flash is set to "off", because there is no built in flash in the first place.

Mine was $380 from Prime Camera. Walked past and noticed it there. Bought it on impulse. Never regretted it.

There's a small crack on the glass of the LCD, so I bargained it down from $420.

Works perfectly, LCD and all.

28mm version

Yah... When my friends try the camera, they'll spin the hood and ask how come there's no zoom, or no focus.

Maybe can try the Contax G strap? I need to get one also. The original strap that I have is falling apart.

Yah... but the flash has D technology leh :bsmilie:

you might want to try a yashica electro which comes fixed with either 35mm f/1.7 lens (electro cc) or 45mm f/1.7 lens (electro gs/gsn)
it's pretty quiet too, if you know how to use it.

and, on the 2nd hand market, it's cheaper than the hexar.

Hexar is autofocus, autoexposure (aperture priority), auto-drive and uses modern batteries. A different kettle of fish.
