okie....thanks alot for the help..i'd probably get it when i am free....at least all my lens use a 77mm thread...so not so bad...

cheers..

The cost of Hoya R72 increases exponentially for sizes larger than 58mm. The last time I checked with Cathay Photo, a 72mm R72 cost more than $200.

If you don't believe me, give them a call or check out the price range of Hoya R72 filters at this site:

Out of curiousity, never did Infra photography before, but special flims are required even with the filters on ..... correct? :D

That's really very expensive, didn't realise prices of the R72 can be that high. I must really have a very bad sense of gauging.

If you are using analog cameras, then yes, you need special films that are sensitive to infra-red radiation.

Check out this site for some interesting read on IR photography both digital and analog....

Tnanks, I'm still learing to shoot IR.
As long as the glass is not broken, I guess it can be saved. As witness suggested, why not bring it to TCW, they may be able to help.
Here's another pic for your viewing, please comment :embrass:

Witness - don't know how much the 77mm R72 cost, but as a gauge I bought my 52mm from CP at $35. So 77mm could be in the region of $50 - $55.
Yes, IR requires long exposures. That why a tripod is neccessary. Unless you trade off for a shallow DOF, then shoot wide open with very steady hands. Shooting at a smaller aperture will give you a greater DOF and the pics will be very much sharper. Wind conditions also play an important part in IR photography. If you shooting trees on a windy day, then your pics will turn out blur 'cos of the long exposure and the leaving swaying in the wind.

Thanks for sharing... now I have some idea of IR liao...

im definitely very much a beginner as well.
where is TCW? the one at prinsep?

nice pic..i like how the clouds are white..but trees turned out blue instead.
i can't get my workflow right still.

p mode seems to be the standard eh?

is your trees blue because u handheld?
ive tried taking ard 1sec....quite white the trees.

maybe we could start an infrared group here?

TCW - The Camera Workshop is at Peninsula. The building where the Peninsula/Excelsior Hotels is. Look for Spinelli at the front, walk along the passage way. On your left you will pass Ruby Photo, proceed on and TCW is on your right.

Trees are not white, 'cos the preset W/B was set on a different tone of green. When I don't have a tripod with me, I use P mode most of the time. I would definitely want to try some shots in Aperture Priority, but then too lazy to carry out a tripod.

Why not show some of your IR shots.

Starting a IR group? Don't know how many are interested in this field of photography, maybe you want to do a poll to see response.

Cheers

I'm for it. Anyone else interested, give suggestions - where, when?

There's a guy selling his Hoya IR 62mm filter Here . I don't know who he is and have no connections with him, just sharing the info.

Looks interesting using a R72 filter. Now where to get one cheap.
BTW anybody knows where can get a U360 ultraviolet filter. I used to use 1 but now it looks like nobody sells anything like this anymore.

u should get one for your d70...ive seen really nice pics on the net taken with the d70 and r72

Wah D70, most of my lens on the D70 are 77mm. Seems like very expensive from the thread above. I will make do with my 8400 with a 37mm one if possible.

Those pics were shot with a D70. I also use the CP5700 for IR, and they're ok too.

Setting the right WB is very important. Improper setting will give you weird colors. Show one of your pics, let's discuss about it.

I don't know of any place in Sg that have topiaries. Years ago there was one at Botanic Gardens, but they have since removed all those beautiful animals. Let me know if you find out where in Sg where there are topiaries, I would very much like to shoot them in IR too.

i'll go back and find one to post here later tonite or tomorrow.

im getting those really red/purple pics now. even out of focus i think.
i read some ppl compose and focus their shot first..then put the filters on. do u do that? or is it because u have manually changed the WB thats why u can do handhelds?

its sad that we dont have topiaries :(
in my quest for it...i have actually emailed the NPB asking where i can find it a few days back :D
hopefully they reply me soon then
if have....then maybe we can start a IR outing

Red/Purple, out of focus? Something like this?
61557-med-DSC_2807.JPG

If yes, then definitely it's wrong W/B and out of focus.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post. I compose and focus first then put on filter to shoot:-
1. Camera set on AF Lock only.
2. Compose, half press shutter release to focus.
3. Press AF lock, release shutter for focus lock
4. Fit IR filter over lens, half press shutter release again for P mode to measure exposure with filter on.
5. Fully depress shutter release to capture.

This should help.

Apologies to PandaOng that this thread has turned into a different IR discussion from his first post.
