I know we shouldn't pay $$ to our photographic subjects as it would encourage them to ask for more money from future travellers. I usually stick to this principle quite strictly but something made me quietly press a ten-rupee note (about 30 cents) into this little girl's palm. Maybe I didn't want her to grow up looking like her skeletal guardian.

Must be Paul using his charms to "teh" the ladies.

Ya right...U think I "teh" expert eh. Actually her sister started saying the word first, then she walked in and tie the scarf over her head and keep asking for her pic to be taken...at the same time, saying I believe to herself "beau...........teeeeee........foooooooollll.

Anything, thing there are only 4 women in Pang. 2 in the other tent, which one of which is a very very old lwrinkled face lady which i had her pic :)

Why did she pull the ponytails like that? Was she trying to act cute?

11_Leh_Palace2.jpg

This is a very heavily processed view of the gompa above the Leh Palace.
The original file is smoky, underexposed and blur. I was disappointed that the photo didn't turn out the way I had hoped. However there were some interesting shadows and I played around with the photo in photoshop and was quite happy with what I could salvage. Comments? Anybody wants to have a go at processing the original? PM me.

Wife & me too tired from Sarchu onwards. Completely knockout. Didn't take much photo or remember much of scenery. Only thing we remember is Pxxx teasing the lady. She was extremely happy while we were there.

If she pose in that manner, I think she is trying to act cute.

I vote for #18, 20, 21, 30.. great work..

where is that taken? scindhu festival ground? it is parked with that 2 stones as marker?

Yes, it was taken on the road outside the festival grounds.
I guess you might be right about the stones as markers. Although I think they might very well just be placed there randomly.

11_Spituk_Gompa.jpg

Whenever visitors come calling at a monastery outside of the prayer hours, a monk on duty will usually unlock the prayer halls and invite them in to view the murals or statues of the protector deities. By the time we made our way to the prayer hall of Spituk Gompa, this monk had already opened the doors and was waiting with a book.

Fluttering Prayer Flags of Spituk Gompa.
These prayer flags are commonly seen throughout Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and Ladakh. As the flags wave in the wind, the mantras and prayers printed on the flags are carried by the wind and their blessings bestowed upon others. I thought it was important to convey the sense of fluttering of the flags and attempted to do so with this photo.

Rizong Monastery houses a school which educates young monks. On the way to the monastery, we met a group of young novices who began posing for us. It was difficult to determine who were more excited - the photographers or the subjects.
