I agree even 600mm sometimes we feel not tele enough. I will crop tighter for those birds photo.

They are nice,Richard.

Thanks hehe....

after shooting these on monday afternoon, I am now wondering if investment should be made in a Circular polarizer.... quite expensive at 105mm.... some of the shots with water will probably look nicer with a polarizer, but wonder if the roughly 1 stop reduced amount of light will impact shooting/AF.

some of the shots I think i used too low an ISO and could have been crispier if action was frozen, like those of the birds fighting in the previous page.

ya man.... next time i will bring out my wife's 60D, see how well it does for birding with 600mm + 1.6 crop.

those are good shots. i am struggling between this and the 300mm F2.8 L Mk1 version. although i not a birding person. would like to use it on other stuffs such as animals or perhaps walkabout lens? haha. i like the effect of background being flatten. haha.

if purely for walkabout, i think this lens is a little heavier than the 300 2.8 canon, although more flexible with the zoom range. Zoo and animals, this lens is perfect. birding now i find this not long enough also haha

hehe no money. can only try to get closer to the birds. My BIF and those fighting pics were from pretty far off.... so if can get nearer.....the IQ will definitely be better.

LOL..... must get the EF600mm f4L IS II or EF800mm f5.6L IS!

Hmm..i prefer using EV to control rather than CPL. My reason is,when the subject (mostly wildlife for me) moves about,i will have to also reposition the CPL to match again. Besides,i shot mostly handheld with the lens previously,so it would have been tougher with a CPL.

Some shots with a little motion blur are nicer..gives the feel of moving subject than a totally frozen one at times.

Of course, different people with different needs apply to both comments.

Struggling very badly trying to resist the poison of this lens esp after wishing my 70-200 II was longer in range after today's F1.
Only thing stopping me is what else can I use this lens for after F1 since I don't get any chance to shoot sports :(

Would it be too short on a FF (5D3) for wildlife, birds or zoo?

Looking forward to your photos :D

i have the 70-200mm lens too and was in my dry cabinet most of the time,it was like mainly for the yearly F1 only.
yesterday i was trying out something different and bought along just 1 lens which is the 500mm to try it out as usually Friday has less crowd and easier to carry around.
My previously experience with the 70-200mm was still ok with 1.3x crop body. shooting mainly on the tele end but the race cars are really tight in the frame.

Went to TK & SLR just now. Both no stock :(
