Image and sharing thread - Sigma 120-300 OS HSM Sports

When stacked in between such a heavy lens + 2C, and a 1DX body, the wobble is pretty noticeable. The fit for the sigma 1.4 and canon 1.4 is much better.

Anyway i decided to keep my canon TC and sell the Sigma 2X. So anyone looking for a good 2X TC as sharp as the canon 2X iii let me know! only reason why i am selling is for the stacking and weather proofing on the canon.

definitely kenko can use one, the front part doesn't protruding much, but saw what you write above, keno not as tight fit with the body and lens, thats a bit worried me, is the wobble that much or so so?

from what i see, you just need to open the back element of the sigma TC and remove the back part, and you need to cut it hehehe....thats if you brave enough to do it, other wise i suggest don't :)

Something to note.
U stil can calibrate with the uab docker when u stack Sigma 2x tc. Sigma will record it as separate data set into the chip,
eg.
1. sigma 120-300
2. sigma 120-300 (1.4x tc)
3. sigma 120-300 (1x tc)

This will not happen for other brand's tc.

yup that's one of the good points of using a sigma convertor. thankfully my canon TC matches the Sigma lens pretty well, so no need for calibration for now. hehe in fact my sigma dock is a little black elephant siting in its box after i customised the AF speed

Ok, thanks for the info, i may try to modified sigma though later hahaa.....

finally after long decision, i file out the sigma 2X and manage to stack it together with EF 1.4X II, good news is the result is sharpness is very good, bad news is AF going crazy to try to focus, but it can be solved with taped the last 3 pin on the 1.4X II, but another bad news is TC doesn't report the correct F number, so need to do it manually to set at f/8.

here's some result, 100% crop straight from camera:
ISO 500, 1/1250 f/8 @ 840mm

and yes my humble experiment...:)

Wa! V brave of you. Can u show which pins u tape on the 1.4? Maybe similar taping will let me af properly with both sigmas stacked

Oh wow.. interesting mini project going on here.. at this rate.. thread can b stickie for stacking tc le..

very good sharpness by the way! I think the 120-300 OS HSM (non sport) is a good bargain, lighter than the sports version and easier to put on and take off the hood.

ok i found the reference on line. and it seems that for the sigma lens, just taping one pin on the most left is sufficient. will try that this evening.

yes you're correct, this is the one. once you tape it, the AF performance is way much better. and yes the previous version of this 120-300 OS is good lens at bargain price.

ooo... i just tested and yes, after taping 3 pins on the sigma 1.4 convertor, AF now seems to work reliably. looks like another round of assessment to be made before deciding which to sell hehe..... its too dark now to make proper judgement on sharpness of the TCs. taping 1 pin did nothing, so all 3 pins needed to be covered.

did the f number still shows 5.6?

Without taping it shows F4. After taping it shows 5.6, so the 1.4 is effectively invisible

hello guys, Im still have problems with my IQ. All my zoo and SBWL are ALL blur!!

Probably Sigma only calibrate the lens indoors, at 5 meters or so.

Im shooting mostly at 10m and above.

I just bought the dock and im going to try calibrating myself, setting my camera and lens out doors.

Any advise fellow sigma sport user?

What aperture did you use? Was a tripod used? Did the subject move? (In the zoo, I'd expect it to move).

ok hmm... i'm on leave this thursday, if you want can meet up and we can do some comparisons. best if you can post some samples though

hi bro, mostly at 2.8, use a monopod, yes some moving subject some not, still blur at 10m away or so.

Subject there are nearer, were ok, sharp.

have you try using AI servo focus? if you using canon, why not try to use micro adjustment on the camera it self, and you can check on the spot for the result.

for newest model i think canon support micro adjustment for wide and tele, if you using zoom lens. but if you use other bodies it will be different story.
