the fact that if I can only bring ONE prime lens.
I'd rather stay @ home and sleep.
but that's my side of the story.

It would have to be 30mm f1.4 which on my 1.6x would make it a normal lens.

I will be tear between choices.A 50/1.4 planar or a 100/2 planar......
I think i will choose ..........50planar

If you have all the primes, and can only bring one, which one will it be? Now the poll is 'biased' because of the 'already have' effect, usually the most common and affordable one, and not the one ...

Nikkor 45 2.8 paired with FM3a is just like carrying a P&S.

Carry one prime - but to where and for what purpose? This will dictate the choice.

If you go africa for wild life, will u take the WA?
U for go some reunion, will u take the long lens?

Or is poll meant to be like those 'survival quiz', you dun know what the 'assignment' will be and you are to make your best guess??

Reading at some of the comments, some may or had posted thier preference based on their own personal fondness of a particular lens and not so much on the particality/usage and then try to 'not so efficiently' overcome it during the acutal shooting (if I will to post again, I would change to 85/1.4D, but if you ask me why, then.....)

The poll result, IMHO, is now only good for viewing pleasure.

i believe the poll serves various purposes. whether or not it was the thread starters intention, maybe not.

not everyone who starts a poll can think through what it can achieve in its totality...

all in all... the poll is useful... take whatever good you can out of it, and discard the rest.

for me, the thread caught my eye because i was looking for a new prime lens and wanted to get some ideas... it hasn't completely solved my queries... but it has pointed me toward a better answer.

now, i think i'll take along a 20/1.8 :)

my vote is for 24mm/2.8. with dslr crop factor it becomes 36mm which is great for walkaround.

juz pretend i am jalan-jalaning with a 35mm rangefinder round my neck. :)

for travelling i will go for nikon afd 20mm f2.8, probably the most versatile lens for dslr:)

of course ultra wide.. i want everything in a picture and i like the challenge...

actually it depends on what occasion to be shot.. but i prefer to bring my 28mm (considering 1.6x crop on my 300d)
just my humble opinion

only 50mm/1.8 for me

It must be my 24mm f/2.8 AFD. :D
I just love it.

I'd use a 35/1.4 or a 50/1.4, most probably the 35. I like the angle of view better than the 50. However if I want to travel really really light it would be the 50/1.8.

If a porter is provided and someone is paying, I wouldn't mind the 200/1.8L or the 1200/5.6L. Great stuff !

You mean that only if you can afford the price of a porter would you than bring your 1,200 mm f5.6L lens? Can afford price of lens but not the price of a porter???:sticktong

50mm F1.4 is good. It can serve both macro and portrait as well as scenic shoot. Most importantly, it is light ! Ha :)
