I love my XH-A1

another thing i wanna point out is, XH-A1 sesor only can capture about 1000 x 900 natively, the processor inside it actually expand it to like 1080p or 1080i. This is the problem with 1/3 inch sensor I think.

If I'm not wrong, EX1 and EX3's 1/2 inches sensors are able to capture 1080p natively

Hi pacifact. Where do you get this from? First I have heard of it. The XH-A1 has the sharpest image of any HDV cam I have seen, and I always thought the sensor was 1440x1080. Please enlighten me.

I think i got it messed up with HVR-Z7, although XH-A1 uses 1/3 sensor, but the sensor got more pixel I think...you are most likely to be right for the resolution.

Its 1440 x 1080 i think, then anamorphic stretched to output to 1920 x 1080

It is recorded as 1440x1080 (HDV standard) and normally it is best to edit in this resolution. You choose the final resolution when you render the footage, for example I render as 1280x720 to upload to Vimeo.

Hmm.. I just bought Canon's wide-angle lens adapter for the XH-A1. its really awesome when I had to shoot for events..

I'm looking to buy this---->> http://www.redrockmicro.com/microShoulderMount/index.html

Anybody wanna buy anything from there too? We could save on shipping :P

ya... the wide angle lens is great but the added weight is terrible. it also takes a longer time to focus and needs more light! I'm fairly new to the equipment, and i wonder if you are open to coaching me.... i can be your assistant for free!

Hi Ronny, do you own the wide-angle adapter yourself?
I felt the added weight was manageable, it isn't exactly much more heavier.. I used it on a 3hrs event recently, handheld.
At first it felt I had extra weight on the front, but after 10mins or so... It completely didn't bother me at all.. The footage was totally awesome.

With regards of taking more time to focus and needing more light, if any.... these 2 factors were absolutely unnoticeable.
I'll pop some footage up here next week... I'm kinda playing around with a Canon HV30 right now.. :P

Hmmm, am I seeing things? Faiz a Canon fan? I think maybe someone has hijacked his Internet account! :D:D

Yeah, I lend him my camera over the weekend... hah. Fiaz, post some screengrabs please!

Hi Hobbes00,

I bought the wide-angle adaptor because of a requirement for a wedding shoot... it stays on my camera most of the time but i will be taking it off for now. with the adaptor, the camera can't do Instant focus. that slows down the auto-focus time. i can't do manual focus coz the screen is too small! actually, the difference with and without the angle is not very big.... covering a 10-hours job with the extra weight is no joke. anyway, i look forward to watching your footage!

Hi Ronny, great that you own one, how often do you shoot with it?

I shoot with it 70% of the time, getting that extra angle is so much better.
Yes I know you cannot use the Instant Auto-Focus which the A1 features, I guess for me I always am on Normal Auto-Focus, I personally feel it is much more natural because sometimes the IAF can go hunting at the slightest change of picture.
I personally use manual focus selectively on event coverage shoots.

Give me some time, quite busy with cutting up some film now.. :P

noob question... how do i set the following on the A1? :p

You just need to edit one (or two) of the custom presets and change the values to what Faiz has listed. Then select that preset when you want to shoot.

ooo.... okok... i'll give a try... thanks jaegersing..
