Yes, generally the IQ is the similar, but a number of tests did show that the EPL-1 got better IQ from both JPEG and RAW....

But then again, I don't really shoot highly cropped newspapers so...
And the VF-2 is a must-have if you shoot manual. Just got mine, and I do regret not getting it earlier... but I must admit, it is pricey relative to the setup.

IQ is not the same, IMHO, and I don't pixel peep. Difference can already be seen even on the low-res LCD screen without magnification, it reminded me of the GF1's image sharpness.
High ISO handling up to 1600 especially is the big difference (and the E-P1/P2 were already ok). Otherwise, I would not bother to let go of my E-P2 for E-PL1, as the E-PL1 has nothing to offer me if it did not have better IQ, and E-PL1 even was supposed to have 1 stop less IS.
YMMV. Maybe too "cheap" to gain respect :bsmilie:. Advanced photographers I showed it to liked it though, so I guess we shared the sentiment of not being influenced by prices.
On the other hand, I only use mostly mf lenses on the EP2/E-P1, maybe the difference is less with m4/3 lenses. I don't know, never compared. This was one reason to switch, it makes the mf lenses show more, feels better to know that.
E-P1/P2 is certainly better built, but it is still soft metal, a tripod plate can leave marks on it. I think it boils more to the better looks and control dials of the E-P1/P2, or the reduced price of the E-P1, which is good enough anyway. The E-PL1 has lesser built but is still a solid piece of body, although I wish it was as big as the E-P1/P2.
As for better dials on E-P1/P2, I "disabled" the dial wheel. It is not a design I like, IMHO, easily changing settings with the slightest feathery touch, ruining some shots during high-pressure shoots where one was expecting fixed settings so one can concentrate on the photo-taking, not on the camera. The scroll wheel is ok, though. Reviewers of E-PL1 seem to have forgotten their own criticism when they reviewed the E-P1 before, or maybe they are just hinting at Olympus to improve.
Anyway, whatever makes one happy and comfortable is the right camera for them. In this case, they like the E-P1 better.

i think for the e-pl1 the super control panel is good enough, no need for the wheels (after adjusting settings using the wheel, have to look at the screen for confirmation anyway. why not just look at the screen and change on the fly?)
for example if i want to shoot in manual mode:
-rotate the mode dial on top of the camera to 'M'
-to adjust f-stop it's just a matter of left/right buttons
-to adjust aperture it is the up/down buttons
-to adjust ISO, press 'ok' button to access super control panel and adjust ISO from there (can also adjust a lot of other settings here such as focus mode, shot mode, white balance, etc)

That's funny. I think this menu is one heck of a feature. Canon has the same thing too, but mini version, not as many options.

Hey there! I've just bought an E-P1 and I have a problem with the manual focus on the zoom lens. Whenever I set the camera to manual focus and try to focus by turning the focus ring somehow I'm unable to do so and the camera just flashes a 'Please Check Status of a Lens' message. I thinking if anyone has a problem with it and how do I solve this problem?
Does your auto focus work? What lens are you using it with? If all else fails,and its within 7 days,go back and change

Did you actually unlock the lens before turning on your cam?
Yup I did! But when I try manual focusing by turning the focus ring the focus ring moves back to it original position and the message appears.
I just got my E-P2!
