when we import .mov files(which is animation formate originally) to iMovies, why the high res quality lost? i do not think i set the preference wrongly......is it becoz this software is comsumer type?so got its limits?

and i start to domy video in final Cut pro. why i can not view those trans and effect after i put in to ?and the most stupid thing is ,,,,,how to split video clips there? how come this software not as user-friendly as other mac softwars...i tried tried..still blur~

another thing is how to convert those iDVD project to .mov or any media files instead burn the project into a dvd,? I searched internet, but not found yet.

and any 高手(big guy) tell me how?thanks a lot~

you did set the prefs wrong
but setting it to display better quality would mean slowing down your computer

iDVD projects cannot become quicktime files
edit in iMovie and save as quicktime

When you import into iMovie, it gets converted to DV which is a compressed format. That's why it won't look as good as when it's in Animation (the codec, not the form).

i set it display best quanlity..i just feel it is not as perfect as i open with Quick time,i did some video clip by MOTION and Shake which look soooooooooooooo good ,sooooooooooo clear by Quick time viwer, how come i put it into iMovie, then it becomes not so clear....then after i export out..it seems slightly better....or my eyes got problem..and the thing affect the fonts and scripts more than images..alll characters on screen looks like rubbish....not vector look already.......how come when i preview the adding tiltle action in iMovie, it looks okie.especially white fonts. then when i actually add that tiltleto my clip, the fonts looks unsharp.especially red color.....make my work looks very unpro~....sigh...

so that is end of iDVD to quicktime file?..oh god.....there are source can be use...pity pity..:dunno: .

thanks a lot~~~

do you think when u do your video in NTSC or PAL format,,,and export it and burn it...the quanlity not so good..not clear..at least when view from mac.....

i can not stand that. so i try try try,,then find out animation formate got best effect.best quanlity.....and comparing to HDTV, importing, editing process time is shorter,,so i keep using animation format..

i always feel there is a thing i have not got, so i cannot work out a "clear" video...which format do you use if u want to acheive a high res quanlity video? 跪求楼主~~!!hope u understand chinese.hehe thanks~

You confusing the format with the codec used. It's like in photos. You've got your 6x4 inch but is it in JPEG or TIFF? That's the same as a PAL video but it could be using the Animation or DV codec.

You want good quality? Use Apple Uncompressed 8 or 10-bit in Final Cut Pro. iMovie only allows you to use DV.

A few things:

"existing clips in imovie are not so clear": The preview function of imovie is deliberately more pixelated so that it will run smoother. Like what Ortega mentioned, set tp a higher quality preview, but it will then depend on how fast is your machine/ram, for the preview to be any satisfactory.

"fonts looks unsharp in imovie". I did have this problem. and the conclusion after troving the depths of the internet, it is the limitation of imovie. It has a consumer range compression, such that when you output, the image quality is not as sharp as when you output in Final cut Express, or final Cut Pro where you can select the compression to use. Apparently, when you add photos AND text, the quality drops further. It was suppose to be a bug in imovie after version 4, that never quite got fix in 5. I haven't tried imovie 6 HD yet.
One stupid way to do it, I suspect, is to output this back onto a NEW mini DV tape, and then use another software to do the compression/encoding into format you want. Or play it straight from the miniDV camera.

i really confused......"You confusing the format with the codec used. It's like in photos. You've got your 6x4 inch but is it in JPEG or TIFF?" what does this mean...i learn little about video editing before i start to do it......what is format, and what is codec???? i always think they are same.......and what is difference between jepg and tiff then?..oh god, do not laugh at me on this...thanks thanks

okie i will try to use that in final but pro. i still try to get familiar with Final Cut Pro,....seems quite hard to make good lovership with him....hope i could mastr it soon....

thanks a looot`!

my machine is mac pro. dual processor, 1G ram only i want to upgrade it now..but pity the mac guy i always contact went on his holiday...still "horny" waiting for his back. but i seems set the preference at the best quanlity already...just when i compare with other video editing software, iMovie is fast, but no so good quanlity..

thanks for explaining the reason about unsharp fonts. i already starts using LIVETYPE or motion to add in fonts. u know, that is very troublesome. so wandering are there any chance i could get a bettr fonts visual in imoview. now, give up~

and a bout the last thing.......haha yes stupid. ..hehe i did that .....wasted a few tapes. ai...pity...until i find there is liveType and final cut studio thing........:p thank you~~!

PAL and NTSC are video standards. For example, PAL is used in Singapore while NTSC is used in America. Video standards determine the resolution (PAL at 720x576 / NTSC at 720x486 (480 for DV)) as well as the refresh rate amongst other things.

Animation, DV, JPEG, Uncompressed 4:2:2 are usually terms to describe video codecs, i.e. how they are encoded and stored on as data. There are advantages and disadvantages to using different codecs, one of them being quality. iMovie works using the DV codec natively which is a lower quality codec compared to Animation.
