how to take clear moon shots?

Hi,
need advice.
today the moon is super BIG and clear. i tried lots of settings trying to take a clear shot, but it all come out to be quite blur.

is there any setting i should use?
i using Nikon D90 with 18-200mm VR and a tripod.

Are you taking photos with the shutter open? are you using a cable release or timer (long enough to let the camera shake to supside?)

clear sharp moon shot, use spot metering if possible and keep in mind that the moon is constantly moving, so do NOT use too slow a shutter speed, I personally use faster than 1/60s and aperture use F8-10, ISO go try yourself which one suit your setting better

just tried shooting the moon using 300mm, my ISO is 400, shutter 1/500 F9

i set my ISO to 200, f8 and shuttle to 400.
the result come out nice.
will have to test more shots

use a tripod
switch off VR

for exposure use sunny f16 rule (google it, if you don't know)
the moon is lit by the sun, so expose as if it is daytime and bracket

Seems good.

I use 1/250, F8, ISO 100, WB Sunny, manual focus, 300mm,VR off. But 300mm is still too short :-(

i dont think anyone wld have cam shakes issues when shooting at speeds of about 1/100 and faster...

:bsmilie: I guess that's the only option available. Closed shutter means no exposure.

Oh ya... for Canon users dun forget the mirror flipping option in your settings. It helps to reduce vibration when shutter release.

depends on the focal length of the lens and the ability to hand hold the equipment

I'm looking for the best location to shoot the moon. My place too bright leh. Can suggest where is the best place? I can let you all use my Canon 500mm lens. Not long enough can add TC.:lovegrin:

Cheap? I borrowed my friends 500mm lens, he said it was around $2000.

500mm, F6.3, ISO 400, 1/400sec, EV 0, spot metering, manual focus, remote trigger.
It was windy when I took this 2 nights ago, and very cloudy.
If the weather is good tonight, i'll retry with F11.

Tip: Use photoshop to sharpen the image. It really brings out the craters.

I like your first shot. Last night I was trying to get the craters, but they werent visible! Wrong side of the moon :/
