How to practice panning techniques

If fact if you wanna be more NINJA than ninjas, and try twice the fun - try doing it at night preferably where there is a mall in the background... Panning and Light painting at the same time!

Plus if you wear black + black DSLR/LENS surely as inconspicuous as you wanna be! :bsmilie:

I think for panning shots, try shutter speed of 1/15 or 1/10 secs and use continousAF . U may get nice pictures

the best time for practicing night panning... anywhere there will be loads of taxis at night. at 12am... suddenly they'll pop outta nowhere!

krieg, that was a superb pan! also the fact that it was in low light...

heres my contribution to help TS visualise what he wants! taken with 1/20, the car wasnt moving very fast though... it was at the bus stop, so this is what you should be getting if you were to do it too...

nice pic! btw , issit the shutter speed determined the blur in de background? or the moving subject ?

Both shutter speed and the moving subject speed will determine the blur you have....If the subject movement is slow, and your shutter speed is fast = little blur. If you can pan a longer exposure of a speeding object, I think the blur should be quite spectacular (provided that you can keep the focus throughout the exposure).
