heehee, yest nite went orchard wif frenz. trying to shot at someone but disappointed when i see the pics. My fren Cannon 500D can shot nice pics.

That's easy. Buy 500D. Dump D60. Case close.

The point is, it is not the camera that matters, it is how well you could make use of your camera to do the job. One thing you can try: swap camera with your friend for one night and shoot with his 500D. If indeed you can get better pics with the 500D then by all means switch to 500D.

I wanna learn more abt shooting thats why i still keep D60 , dare not to buy too X/ too pro cam yet. :)

** buy shooting MORE, and playing with SETTINGS. dont reali understand . :)

He's telling you that the equipment doesn't matter. Although, technically, it does in the long run. But even if you have the best camera in the Nikon series, if you don't know how to master it and equip yourself with the basics of photography, then no amount of money is going to get you a decent photo.

Go borrow a photography book or look up online. There are many sites that offer you tutorials and suggestions on how to take night shots. Knowledge is power. For me, when I'm not out with my tripod, I just turn on my flash or set my shutter speed to low to allow more light in. For a night out with my friends in the city, second-sync flash works fine with me to achieve that club-ish light trail looks.

Sure bro, thanks for the advice. Will get a flash for myself and read books for more knowledge . Btw u mean sutter speed low or slow??

If you're using the kit lens, it's very difficult to get decent shots using shutter priority in a very dark environment. Noise would hence be very pronounced in underexposed pictures. Do you see "Lo" for the aperture value? Why not start off using aperture priority?

i am using a d60 too.. i think when u say that when u use flash it is overexposed i think thats because u didnt set the power of the flash right.. and dun push the iso over 400 it will seriously give u a silly picture.. and i have to say u are courageous that u didnt use a tripod and shoot a photo at 1/5.. hahaha;)

D60 is nt that bad a camera till you gotta have it replaced in the next 1 year or so.

i got some really good shots with the D60. its how you set the camera settings to achieve those effects that you need and want.

you are just doing casual shooting. D60 is already a very good camera. if u still dun believe, sell me your D60 and get a 500D.

Slow. Anyway, if you're just beginning, you don't need to buy a flash.. yet. The built-in one works fine in most cases. It does cause harsh lights but using a diffuser helps. A diffuser is cheap. Just look at the mass sales section in the forum.

I've never used the D60 but I did use the D40 before jumping to Canon. And the D40 was really good and I bet the D60 is equally as good.

use P mode first for starters, if you wanna use S mode at night then is a must to mount on tripod.
my d40 is still surviving well with me.

Yea, even the "supposedly less advanced" d40 is able to take nice night portraits. Waiting for TS to post his pics to see what the "problem" is.

er, threadstarter, it is not the canon 500d, it is the fact that you do not know how to use your d60.

read up more on basic photography, how to manipulate settings to achieve what you need. case closed!

reminded me of myself.

when i moved up from D80 to D300.

its supposed to be an upgrade. but i was getting shots far worse then what i could get out of my D80.

concluded that it was only my skills causing the problem. and then I shot more, RTFM more, to know about my gears more so as to make the best of it.

thats what I tell my young nephew now also. Dont blame the equipment. Its always the user.

Sorry, just curious, what is RTFM?

TS: What do you not like about this shot?

Anyways, shouldn't this be posted in the critique section instead?........
