How to keep DSLR attended during travel?

Hello fellow CS members,
I am going to Australia in the coming Christmas. Most of the time I will secure the DSLR with me when walking, eating, sleeping (perhaps). However, my friends and I plan to go snorkeling in Great Barrier Reef. After the snorkeling, we are going to other places nearby. I don't want to miss the amazing scenery there and wish to bring the DSLR together for the whole day.
Does anybody, who has ever been to Cairns to enjoy diving, know how should I keep the DSLR secure, from being stolen or accidentally drop into the water?:bigeyes:

Why would you bring a DSLR for snorkeling?

Assign someone for sentry duty.

Wrap the DSLR with a plastic shopping bag and tie it to a red ball.

Then go snorkeling with a peace of mind.

When you finish just look for the red ball. It'll be floating somewhere.

I would watch out for sharks in Australian waters.

Because we have a pretty tight schedule. After the snorkeling, we are going to other place around Great Barrier Reef. I want to shoot the wonderful scenery thereafter. Don't know if there are any lockers or something similar at the sea side or on the boat.

so scary...I won't put my DSLR on the water anyway. I just wonder whether there are some sort of lockers in which I could lock my DSLR.

You can leave your bags on the boat. Some beaches have lockers somewhere near the changing rooms. :bsmilie:

Or else you can buy an underwater casing to bring your gear with you while you snorkel. :bsmilie:

remember: don't skimp on the protection if you are bringing it down to the water

If you afraid to lost it don't bring DSLR keep it at safe vault at home....just travel and enjoy the holiday.

piangzzz ..... you will not be the first snorkler visiting cairns with dry underwear, a wallet with money , handbag, camera or other valuables to keep away when u go snorkeling..... there are lockers for rent to lock up your stuff

i assume you will be going to one of those platforms which are moored on the Reef where there is a party boat attached and everyone scuba or snorkle off the platform

Just like someone who brought a full set of Rolleiflex 6008 with several lenses to Chiangmai. He was afraid of theft, so lugged the heavy set around wherever he went. Instead of enjoying the trip, he was a slave to look after the equipment. And much inconvenienced his friends too.

yes. I noticed that as well. There should be a bigger one to suit this requirement. Anyway, I will leave this to ts. At least, there is such a thing called portable safe.
