How to determine whether the car is a undercover POLICE car ??

I think you need to also eleborate on what happened in sequence and in details... cuz the scenario you given is very very sketchy.

some guy in a old merc pulled out a blinker and stop you for dangerous driving? Do you think he does that for the fun of it? Mabbe... but can it be a real undercover cop? Also mabbe if they are the non-uniformed types... but why stop you?

If you watch too much shows... then did you notice anyone else approaching your vehicle while you stop? :think: :devil: suddenly you find yourself with unknown parcels... :bsmilie:

i have seen this kind of things when i am studying in melbourne,... but till now back to sg, the only cars i saw fitted with these are those highway patrols with POLICE on the car..

Ask for his Warrant Card or ID. If he doesnt produce them, call the police immediately. Please be assured that no police officers should stop you for no apparent reasons or for the fun of it. Ask why you were being stop and questioned. No police officer goes around without his ID. Its a serious offence for someone to impersonate a police officer.

Your first assumption is already not true... age and size does not co-relate to rank.

And other then high ranking officers...unmarked cars can be used for mission purpose...

The only valid thing (or the more appropriate question) is that... is that fella a TP... which I think it's highly unlikely.

Just a note for all.

The pass worn on uniformed police officers is just a security pass. It does not empower anyone the powers of a police officer. So, don't mistaken it as a warrant card.

If a PO (Police Officer) is in plain clothes, he will need to produce his warrant to identify himself. For a uniformed one, you can request that he show it.

The warrant card will definately show a photo of the PO and his ID. Even after showing his warrant card, if in doubt, you can call 999 to ascertain his identity. (But don't do this unless the fella is suspicious lah - or else 999 very busy).

The warrant card also clearly shows "WARRANT CARD" on it. There are many passes around with the police logo, so don't be fooled. As far as I know, there are 2 kinds of warrant cards.

The old type (could still be used by cisco police - also called auxillary police), is a card folded in half in portrait style. Whilst the new type is like a credit card and is double sided with the photo of the PO in police uniform on the front - also in portrait style. The new warrant cards has some holographic police logos on it (if my memory serves me well. hee.) The new warrant cards also have the photos imprinted - not pasted.

In the situation described, you do not need to stop your vehicle. But if you do, you can ask the fella why he stopped you. You should also explicitly ask him if he is a police officer. If so, ask for his warrant card. Ask from him his Rank, ID, Division and Department and note it down. Also note down his Vehicle Number and try to remember how he looks, anything unique - so if he really is an impersonator, you can provide some identification. (His rank may be different from that of the warrant card - cos its usually not updated , so don't worry) Then you may call 999 to explain what happened and follow their advise.

Nonetheless, my opinion is that you should not stop your vehicle just because someone waved you to the side - even if he has a blinker. Imagine if he is a robber or some other kinda crook. Unless the vehicle clearly shows the police word on the side of the vehicle should you stop your vehicle - that's why they're there. Likewise, if you feel that the vehicle is not a real police vehicle and the occupants themselves could be impersonators, then call 999 to ascertain - your own safety should be the no. 1 priority.

i did have his car no.. he is lucky cos i din bring my cam out otherwise the pic of the car will be posted here.. ( often, i would take the cam out, ON flash and shoot at the plate, car, etc .. of course, i drive , passenger take lah.. )

never mind... jus hope anyone who read this thread can learn from this experience..

i see nowadays, youngsters( triangle ), taxi drivers ( known ) drive very rectlessly ..

me encountered once in a public carpark opposite botanical garden, I was reversing to a lot which I had waited but a car just drove right in. I came down to talk to the driver but he showed me a police identity card. In which I told him what big deal, an argument ensued. It was a carpark attendant that came to pacify the situation. Too angry and forget about taking down the particular also have to rush to the garden for a wedding shoot.

The white unmarked cars are usually Saab or Volvo.A few Galant VR-Gs too.But this fella is clearly an impersonator, and those I've described are mainly VIP escort cars.

Well, blinkers can fake, but his real identity can't. A real policeman/traffic police will always show his real identity, even if he/she is undercover. Always ask for his/her identity when in doubt, but nicely of course.

If he isn't what he claimed to be, then should report to police and let them handle such crap. It is a serious offence in this case.

Did you noticed his licence plate?
Normally private police cars start with QX for your info.

Go cantoment you can see tons of them.

Honestly, I wouldn't know, but I would think that its illegal to do so. After all, if every Tom. Dick and Harry were allowed to use such blinkers in their cars, how does one differentiate a real unmarked police vehicle from one that isn't?

Cars come in 15 million shapes and sizes. Old E200, EvoIX, etc.

That's what most ppl (even in their NSF dayz) like to assume. Look age, look size assume officer = salute or call 'Sir'.

When I went back for reservist, I noticed that sometimes ppl who are driving BMWs, Mercs, Jaguars oft get saluted and mistakened as such. :bsmilie:

Personally, as a RP before I do not hold dis tendency of saluting any Tom, Dick or Harry driving big cars. I look at their ranks and face before I stop. If its the CO without his rank, I wun even bother to salute him.
