How to control depth of field

sorry guys..i'm talking bout Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50

so..the lense is 35 - 420 mm


no the actual optical focal length of your lens is 7.4-88.8mm, 35-420mm is just the 35mm equivalent. just look at the front of your lens, it is clearly written there.

the sensor size is 7.18×5.32mm vs 36×24mm of a 35mm film. a 1.6× crop factor sensor on DSLR like the Canon 20D would be roughly 22.5×15mm in size. so you can see the FZ50 (or any other digicams) has a sensor only 1/9 the area of even a 1.6× crop DSLR sensor.

both of these factors add up to give digicams very deep DOF.
