How much patience does a photo biz require?

I still enjoy and treasure the fact that on the same day of every other month, I know there's money banked into my account- even if I forgot it was pay day. And when I buy something, I never need to worry how much is the ROI on the purchase or whether it's worth it; neither do I need to worry that the camera body is now not as competitive as the current production line.

:)

very shallow

What makes you think that those who do full-time photography don't enjoy such benefits? :)

Because small businesses seldom has consistent revenue especially in the service industries. :)

I don't deny I can be as shallow as it can get in terms of dreams and visions. But 1 thing is for sure, the stack of notes I just withdrew from the automated teller is real. :bsmilie:

this is true. i do not haf a regular income unlike in the past when i work full time in a studio and receive a fix amount of $$.

everythings' cool and dandy. but i'm not happy with the jobscope and the fact that i do not share the same vision as my employers made my life there miserable.

$$ is important but i think for some ppl, dreams and ambitions are almost, if not, more important than $$. well, to me anyway.

let's face it, some are happy to receive their big fat check at the end of a working month. some can only ever be employees.

as for me, i think i'm still relatively young and thus, i decided to strike out on my own.

jus try la! what's there to be scared of? it can't kill u. it'll jus make u go hungry for the 1st year or so if u're fortunate.:)

otherwise i can always go back to working for some co. or studio.

i don't think u're shallow, u're just a very practical person. most singaporeans are anyway.

as for me, i enjoy my own freedom in choosing the type of project to work on, work with and definitely, i'm extremely happy with my lifestyle and my own progress.

oh, and i do enjoy withdrawing my own $$, from the ATM jus like u do, knowing that the $$ i made is no different from the $$ u made, by sweat and blood.

I don't withdraw money from ATM one.

I just take the whole damned ATM home with me if I need cash. :bsmilie:

I'm not in photo biz, but can attest to this.. when hobby became profession ..after awhile .. it became only job ... sigh ..!!
then you just have to tink of the many ways to keep photography fresh for you :D.....

doing some personal projects do help to bring that magic feeling back

cheers!

Questions:

Does that lady doctor who earned 4x more than the Photo Lab Owner, really happy about her life or job ? Her job-related health risk is higher than the Photo Lab guy. She may age even before her time, etc etc.

By earning less does NOT mean One is less happy - for he may be proud to run and own his business and Happiness to him may be that he is able to do what he really want or like, or good in.

Do people who drive big cars and own big houses REALLY Happy with their Lives ? Do those who take public transports are NOT happy people ?

Question:

Does that Photo Lab Owner, who earn 1/4x the lady doctor, realyl happy about his life or job? His job-related health risk isn't necessarily lower than the lady doctor. He may age even before his time, etc etc due to exposure to harmful chemicals.

By earning less does NOT mean one is more happy - for he may have his own set of problems that you may not know about, and happiness may be to him, the ability to have the resources to do what he wants or like or good in.

Do people who do NOT drive big cars and own big houses REALLY Happy with their Lives? Do those who take public transport happy people?

Sometimes, it takes the flip of a coin to see the other side.
