You mean the(diagram) "VVVVVV" thing ?

It should be to adjust the viewfinder diopter , you can adjust it utill you see through the viewfinder th clearest .

What zoom power are you talking about again? WE DO NOT USE X ZOOM FOR DSLRs . . . .:angry:

sorry buddy felix.. let me redefine.. how can i calculate the lens at X mm gives me how much zoom from my position? or there simply is no such concept?

We donot count how much zoom but what is the focal length.

felix buddy, is there a good site for me to learn about what mm / aperture + what shutter = clear pic? not blur?

You still ask this mean you don't understand :D

What is the point of of this question?

If you want to understand it in terms of X (magnification). What is the compact or Prosumer you are using and what does it say its equivalent focal length is?

buddy trust me.. i also not so lazy.. i search for sometime le... guess i too noob to pick up.. will try harder.

Nice work done, Pentaxian...

the 1000 folks come to laugh at this noob LOL

no lar...every newbie will go through this......tons of newbie with Kx as their first dslr. i am one of them too...

set to auto and take a pic..after that..look at the settings...e.g if it shows u F4.5 and 1/80 and iso 400..then the next shot..you set to manual..tis time juz change 1 of the setting (eg F5.6 and 1/80 and iso 400) and see whats the diff..play around a few more time..you shld be able to get the hang of it...

Try reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angle_of_view, especially the example pics around the bottom 3/4 of the page, and see if you get a better idea. Basically, what you see depends on the size of your sensor and the focal length of your lens, the concept of "zoom" is practically irrelevant, and potentially misleading when applied to SLR lenses.

First, you must understand that for any decent lens, as long as you have your camera on a stable support like a tripod or just a wall, it'll produce a clear and sharp pic at any shutter speed, aperture and focal length. Just need to get the focus right.

If you're asking about hand-holding the camera, then what you need to look for is the "1/focal length rule". It's just a guideline, but it's a good place to start.

please read up on basic photography.

sulhan's notes , if you BOTHER to read it will provide valuable insights to a lot of these questions you are asking, and will be asking.

i'm surprised that you are picking up a dslr without having any inkling of what you are doing!

sulhan's notes can be found here:

it doesn't really expound on focal length, so here's a good link, should you bother to read it, that would stop all these "zoom here zoom there" concepts:

suggest you go to the friendly national library, pull out your ic, find a good basic digital photography book.

dslr handbook by michael freeman was freely available in most branches the last i remember. if not, most books should answer a lot of these burning questions you have, in a clear manner.

i want to pengsan....... i think you have selective vision.

i. am. sure. there. is. a. page. in. the. camera. manual. showing. you. exactly. what. everything. on. your. camera. does. it. is. a. very. pretty. diagram. that. looks. like. your. camera.

no, zoom is a silly concept given by camera companies to explain it to hapless consumers.

in serious photography, zoom is meaningless. we have prime lenses, which means they can't zoom. but a 200mm lens is different from a 50mm lens, etc.

like i said, go to library and pick up a book. you will spend less time asking felix buddy questions, and get much better answers. not that felix is not a good buddy, but he can't possibly write a book for you on the internet - no one's that free.
