Well, if you have no problem spending the entire amount mentioned above that makes you happy. Why not. But, the comprehensive studio lightings & accesories with backdrops will set you back around 30k - 50k depending on which lighting system you will be purchasing. Not to mention, you will also need a floor space no less than 10mx14m & 5m high ceiling in order to set up a studio.

Well, would appreciate some feedback on Canon's & Nikon's system, not just how much or how willing am I in spending this amount.

That also depends on how many lights you want/need. A basic setup will need around 3 lights. For pro setup... I'm not sure.:think:

along the route of photography, it is inevitable to spend/waste some money on some baby/full grown white elephants, be it amatuer/advance/professional photographer, there is no escape, that's why there are buy and sell section.
If it is only possible to buy just one camera, lens and flash and tripod and use it thro out the whole process of learning photography then it will be wonderful, but very sad for the photo trade.
In fact, the arrival of digital era had cause a lot of the photo-industry to fold up and many families have lost their job. For me, I had seen five professional processing labs closed one after the other.

Agreed with you on the statement on the digital era. With digital cameras easily available and printing being done at home using home printers, many photo labs can hardly see most customers developing photos nowadays. My uncle who used to own 4 branches in photo developing labs have since shut down all but left one main labs operating. Dunno how long he can hold before it folds up? Haiz!

I think there would still a market for film development... there are still people who still like the effect/grain of film even though their day to day camera is a dslr...

For Pros who make a living from the photos they take, it is an investment because there is a stream of revenue which can be generated from the equipment.

For hobbyists, it is correct to use the word "spent" because it is an expense. Hobbyists buy equipment not for the sake of earning anything. It's no different from say someone who spends a couple of hundred on an iphone.

Anyway, it's only money down the drain if the lens you bought spends most of its time in the dry cabinet.

Well, if you own any 400 f/2.8, 500mm f/4, 600mm f/4 or 800mm f/5.6, that will easily hit over the S$15k mark at any time.
I think a lot of pro out there already exceeded this S$15k mark after the years. But, most of them already get it back from their jobs.
If you are not a working pro, do think carefully when spending. Unless, you can win competitions to cover it back.;p

D1x+D100+d2x+d3+d3x, 8 strobes, at least 10 over lenses since day one and a few custom build equipment.

should hit at least 50k by now.
