I bought a Canon 450D last Thursday at Comex. My very first camera. That cost $1,120 (body, kit lens, tripod, bag, 2x4G card, lens book). On Sunday I went back for the extended warranty deal - blew off another $150. On the same day, went shopping at Funan and got a few things - LCD protector, cleaning kit, UV filter. Total: $30. Will go get a dry cabinet today at MS - $165.

Grand total: 1,120 + 150 + 30 + 165 = 1,465

I am officially 6 days old in the world of photography.

And I'm interested in getting a 17-70mm lens... another $600. Oh, throw in a beginner's course too - $130... and it keeps going on and on and on and on......... and on.

hmm...why the 17-70 since you got the kit lens? Also, the beginner's course is not really necessary in my opinion.

Don't fall to the BBB virus.

Someone just suggested that I should buy a 18-200 F3.5-6.3 DC. I'll drop the 17-70 idea.

Nah, I need a course. I'm not a very "technical" person so just reading books will not do it for me. I know many of you out there are self-taught. Salute. Nah, not me.

The kit lens is the 18-55mm IS? That is a rather underrated lens. Not too sure about the sigma lens, but you realised that the 18-200mm IS is coming out soon? Maybe you'll have an idea of what you need by then.

Paid courses aside, there are many organised outings within CS, free of charge. Anyway, to each his/her own, so long as you feel that you're getting your money's worth.

Have fun!
