How many shots can a DSLR's shutter last?

This may be a bit off but - recently a few EOS 30D users experienced shutter release button failure, me included. The shutter still fired but required a punch on the button...

Apparently the button is directly connected to the shutter via dedicated thin wires and the two forms one replacable part. Lucky my set is still within warranty so I ended up with a fresh shutter and a button - but I don't want this to happen out of warranty...

for what its worth, my 1dmk2's shutter fell apart at 28k recently, while my 20D lasted for 200k++ before giving me some problems.

any idea how much would it cost to replace the button? or the shutter?
not that i am experiencing a failure now but my set is out of warranty already.. :sticktong

out of warranty set - csc will charge u for the parts fee and worksmanship fee... for express service to get the cam within 5 hours will need extra 42 bucks incl. gst.

CSC 3D service will cost addtional 26.25bucks.

thanks but no thanks. your answer is not really an answer at all.

i need the price of the part not the price of the service charge

Shutter button i dunno but for all i knw, my 10D's shutter unit costs $50.

As I said, the button and the shutter are considered one unit.

5bucks for a shutter button.. but installation of a shutter button costs 120SGD when no warranty, cos it is very tedious to remove and install button and calibration is needed after installing a shutter button.

1D shutter button is much durable as it has 3 layers beneath the shutter button..

If i'm using a consumer class DSLR, i might as well get a new DSLR instead. ;p

haha... csc mentioned there was a consumer that shot more than 100k shots before having problems.. so the shutter count is only a gauge.. hehe..

your suggestion is feasible, provided the user has the finances to do so.. :)
