How many shots can a DSLR's shutter last?

Yeah.. one time kind of thing happens and usually a 1-to-1 exchange is done on the spot. I think it didn't fail QC, just that QC missed it. Because if QC has checked it and failed, it would not have ended up in the shop.

That's why i said they might have overlooked it cos human errors are inevitable.

Most mass-produced items are randomly checked by batches, maybe 10 out of a batch of 200. They don't check every single item off the manufacturing line. The simple explanation is that it didn't fail QC, just that it didn't even go through QC :)

As explained above. Manufacturing processes must undergo the 6-sigma process to certify that the batch can be distributed.

Guess i'm OT-ing too much here. ;p

Six Sigma doesn't specify the checking of every single product or that there can be no failures in any batch.. right?

Electronics stuffs are hard to predict as they can fail anytime. Even if u don't get a 1 to 1 exchange, they'll service it for u free. Last time when my LCD backlight failed on the day i bought it and brought it down to service, they also serviced it for free as per normal, but no exchange.

yup.. no exchange.. yesterdsay when i was @ csc, the service staff claimed they will do replacement parts using new ones.. i requested for the express service.. so i pay 40bucks for the extra service.. 3Day service cost 25bucks.

1 to 1 exchange is applicable for the within 7D purchase from the shops only.

Take so long to service the flash? When i went to service my shutter unit, only took a day.

you should had gone for normal service.. it takes around 4-5 days for a normal one.. $25 for a 3day ? :sticktong:

Reading this thread has been interesting... i'm sure most ppl, normal consumer, before reaching or abt 10K, 20k shutter count would have sold the cam for a newer or latest one...

It depends on how much the user shoots also.

I took my D2X to NSC today for a service and asked for the shutter count. Turns out to be 109276!

i shot past 11k already.. wont be upgrading yet.. i shoot regularly so i may just change a new shutter unit and get 1 more dslr to play in future.. hehe..
