how many people use MF lens on canon DSLR

hi thinkvision, already using a couple of Planars... but i have this idea (maybe incorrect) that medium format lenses are better...

Better than what? 135mm lenses?

IIRC, and according to an article I read a long time ago about folks who adapt Hassey/CZZ lenses to Nikon, no.

Medium format lenses are designed for a larger format film, and taking that a MF frame has to be enlarged a lot less than a 135mm frame, MF lenses actually measured lower on the MTF and whatever charts, or at least where sheer lpi resolution was concerned.

As such, 135mm lenses had to be designed to perform higher to extract whatever possible performance from the 'miniscule' 135mm film frame.

In practice, it might be different though because a lot of emotional and psychological factors are involved.

fully agree. the medium lenses are lower in terms of resolution and digital sensors are likely to out resolved the lenses.

A few shots from my dad's 20 year old Nikkor 50mm 1.8 MF.

(taken with a 450D)

It seems like the oldie is a goodie.

All shot wide open too!

Omg this beats quite the crap out of Canon's 50 1.8

Does anyone have experience mating a Nikkor on a Canon 1D MKIII?

I tried it on the Nikkor 50/1.8f on my 450D and the AF-confirm is accurate ( all 9 points function ), but on the 1D MKIII it seems only the center AF point lights up when it is locked in.

I've tried full manual, aperture priority, spot metering, evaluative metering and still i can only use the center AF point on the 1D MKIII to confirm focus, whch means my subject must be right smack in the center of the middle AF point on the 1D.

I use Contax Zeiss 50/1.4 & 85/2.8 on 400D.:)

Ehh? Did you try selecting other focus points?

Yep, i did. it works if i select other points but if set to AF, then only the centre point confirms focus! weird.

I just got a Zeiss 50mm 1.7 today, but unfortunately with the adapter, it doesn't focus to infinity ):

Is it Contax CZ 50/1.7?
Mine can focus to infinity with the adapter.
It is from TagoTech.

Where to get? and how much is it in the 2nd market?:)

If u're using Canon, u'll need to mod the lens. Not for the faint hearted.
U've to file it, sand it and screw it. But that's the only way if u like the way this lens draws.
PM me if u're keen. I've one extra lens, unconverted.

heh heh

let me add to the poison of the Rokkor 58/1.2!
((=

these were taken at a pub, and the shutter speed went down to as low as 1/10... so its not as sharp as it should be, and I couldn't really tell if my MF-ing was correct..

but just check out the bokeh, and the light sources that are out of focus. loving it!

i paid US$450 for this lens, which was already converted to the EOS mount. the conversion was very well done, and it focuses to infinity on the 5D without any problems. I did not have to shave my mirror either, to my supreme relief. Picked this up on the very last day while I was in the US. Phew!

my friend says the bokeh looks similar/comparable to the 85/1.2, but i have yet to verify for myself.

weekh>> glad to see that you got your conversion all sorted out! are we the only 2 using this lens here? hehe
