Hello.... trying to start a brand war here ? :nono:
Should be Sony, Fuji, Oly ... or best still local singlish " Ni Ah Kong"
Don't worry Peterpan, you have to know Adamadam, just about one of the few genuinely nice guys left on earth, is also a provobial JOKER with a sometimes wicked sense of humour! :bsmilie:
I hear that another brand always gets branded along with a well-known sanitary product (LOL! and sorry Meh Meh), and there is another group who pronounces it as 'Noink'. Don't ask me why, I have no idea.
The thing about names and associations, as well as brading is that as long a a greater majority of a community uses the word or phrase in a certain way, it is generally acepted to be correct.
For example, branding by Kodak was once so strong in the Phillippines, that people didn't say "Please take a photo of me", but said, "Please Kodak me." Similarly, almost everyone here I know says "Scotch tape" but what they meant was
any kind of CELLOTAPE, and not necessarily the trademarked Scotch brand variety of cellotape.
So if someone pronounces Canon as Kaanong, and Nikon as Haimon, and Pentax as Aspex, and almost an entire community uses it that way, it is correct.
