80-400vr is a good lens, but to appreciate its beauty, you must know wat kind of shots is it best utilised for. There should be absolutely no questions and no doubt about its sharpness and bokeh. I ditched the 70-200vr and 1.7x for this and have no regrets. 70-200vr is just not for shooting birds, its for shooting porn (nude workshops organized by sleezy clubsnappers - u know who)

The lens itself is sharp... mine is sharp at wide open at F5.6. At first i thought my copy is not sharp when i first got it, after some testing, i find that if i shoot raw, i could even see some details on the bird's feather but at jpeg, these details are not shown, i suspect it is the picture process done by the camera itself. Try shoot raw and you will see the difference.
The sweet spot of the lens is where you shoot at F11...![]()
