Horseshoe cover?

I think what he is afraid of rust if too much contact with water, espcially the inner part of the hot shoe

Well, the thing is... if I were to be out and about and got caught in the rain, I would likely give my camera a wipe-down at the earliest convenient opportunity (home, hotel, cafe, etc). Even if I had the hotshoe cover on, I'd remove it to wipe the hotshoe contacts. So that kind of defeats the purpose of having the cover in the first place. It's not like I'd leave it on and forget about it. Anyway, rust (corrosion) would not occur so quickly. Well, at least not to the point that it's visible :)

Perhaps other folks would have a different opinion on this.

I'm just afraid it may come in contact with the rain unknowingly as i'm a careless person and when i mount the flash, things may goes wrong. =p

But i realise Canon do not have that cover.

hmmm ok. Anyway it's not an expensive item so might as well get it if you find it useful.
If I'm not mistaken, Canon's flash hotshoe has a little microswitch to detect the presence of an onboard external flash. I'm not sure how it will perform if you always have the cover in place, pressing down on the switch.

well, if rain hits the cover, it could still seep in cause it does not provide a waterproof seal... and if one doesn't clear off the unseen water seepage and leaves the cover on, the cover could actually slow down the evaporation or evacuation of the water from the hotshoe... overall, don't really believe the cover does all that much to protect the hotshoe from the elements...

Ya I think it's a redundant piece of plastic... but oh well some people like protection and some prefer not ;)

Or get a cheap hot shoe bubble spirit level which also act as hot shoe protector. S$ 1.81 only. Order a few and give to your friends.

$7 for BS-1? The seller must be crazy rich!
Or Super poor cos no1 will buy from him lol :bsmilie:

I used to buy BS-1 from B&H at US$5.99 a few years back, and that's before shipping (which will be negligible if buying other items). But that's original Nikon and not brandless imitation. You might say I am crazy to buy original, but I'd rather pay Nikon and not some 3rd-party dude. :sticktong

Anyway, BS-2 is ard S$12-15 (US$7.99 @ B&H b4 shipping, US$14.90 @ eBay w/shipping) if I am not wrong, again so much for a cheap plastic? :bsmilie:

Or just tape it down with gaffer when travelling or in the great outdoors...

You can buy a rubber hotshoe cover that comes with a small spirit bubble. Its accurate enough but most important it is very cheap. Ordered a few from ebay shops in HKG. Arrived 10 days leader via mail.

if I really need a hot shoe cover, I will fold a two dollars note into a small square and use it as hotshoe cover.... cheap and reusable..... lol
