I think what he is afraid of rust if too much contact with water, espcially the inner part of the hot shoe
Well, the thing is... if I were to be out and about and got caught in the rain, I would likely give my camera a wipe-down at the earliest convenient opportunity (home, hotel, cafe, etc). Even if I had the hotshoe cover on, I'd remove it to wipe the hotshoe contacts. So that kind of defeats the purpose of having the cover in the first place. It's not like I'd leave it on and forget about it. Anyway, rust (corrosion) would not occur so quickly. Well, at least not to the point that it's visible
Perhaps other folks would have a different opinion on this.
