Was at Tin Cheung on Friday, got a Sigma Super Wide angle Zoom 10-20mm/f4-5.6 EX DC at HKG3200 instead on what was shown on their web HKD3360

can give an address?

i got a friend going next week. Asking her to make the purchases for me.

anything i need to look out for?

is this shop reputable?
If you have the address to Wing Shing in Mongkok, then it is on the same side of the street. Come out of Exit D3 from MTR Mongkok Station, Wing Shing is further down on the right side of the road (the road is a very narrow one usually with a lot of parked cars), walk further down about 1-2 blocks and you should see Citicall shops. They are in blue and with the Chinese word "Laser" (directly translation).

Here is the list of Citicall address (FYI, I went to branch 010):

Even different Citicall shops quote different price so you might want to ask around first. I will suggest going to Wing Shing and ask for the cash price and use that as the baseline. You can also go to shops such as Broadway to get a better understanding of the current price. Some shops do not give extra discounts even if you pay cash so there might not be any difference between credit card and cash.

As for the product, look for signs that the box has been opened such as crumble plastic bag that holds the product. Of course, need to check the actual product and test it to make sure it works. Although they have a 10-day return/exchange policy on faulty products, you might not be able to go back given that you might not find out the problem until you came back to Singapore. So, my advice is to go buy the stuff early and use the rest of your stay to play with the product. In case there is problem, you still have time to go back for exchange.

Lastly, make sure it has International warranty (although I don't think Citicall sells grey sets).

HK camera shop price is great... the only downside is that those reputable camera shops (like WS, MS) may not have stock for some of the items you are looking for... it will be good to do some homework before going there to shop for your item... if you have friends or relatives who are living in HK, it will be good to ask them to secure the item for you in advance... else you may not get what you want during your trip in HK.

Tin Cheung has the most stock between WS & MS?

So is it TC, WS. MS or Citicall?

Which do you guys think will be the safest choice for a nooob to go make purchases?

Is anyone coming back from HK by Saturday or Sunday afternoon? :) I want a lens he he

Safe bet will be MS,WS, but they dont give discount. Citicall u can try.
TS same
in actual fact , all these shop will be a safe choice for u to make your purchase.
athought i perfer one citicall shop over the rest. cause the saleguy over at citicall was nicer to us when we first bought our stuff and give us good discount .
where else when i was in MS, they dont even talk to u much and when u want to try out some lens , they will give u. " u want to buy then i take out La" look..
but this is just my opinion.

HK shops don't want to open up the box unless if you agreed to the price and decided to buy. The practice there is that once they opened up the box, they expect the transaction to go through unless there is a problem with the product. Of course, in that case, they will get a new one.

HK shops are not going to entertain people going there to test out lenses. This is good in a way that you don't get lenses that have been "played" by others. The downside is that you don't have a chace to pick a good copy either.

Example 2: Canon Speedlite 580 EXII
Wing Shing/Man Shing/Tin Cheung all selling at 3,385 but Citicall is selling at $3,330.

Note: these prices quoted are all CASH only and with International Warranty

My fren just got 580EXII from Gilman's Bazaar at HKD3300 (cash price).

Forget to tell you guys; please do not miss out the cheapo HKG100 monopod selling at temple street's stalls. very value for money. can be extended to about 2m.
2 models to choose from, "Nikon" or no-frill brand.

it depend, for WS, i guess they are always jam pack with people that why they have no time to entertain us. but for other it was pretty okie. like wise for citicall, not all entertain us.that why when this particular citical guy was nice to actually let us try out the camera, and give us a good price, we just bought the camera. and it was cheaper than WS and for some stuff that thye dont carry, they will recommend us which shop to get and stuff.
maybe cause he see me and my wife always shopping around every other week.

p.s( we commute to n fro hkg for work)

I guess each shop will have their regulars and they will always make exceptions to these regulars. Good for you that you have built up a relationship with Citicall. I think they are quite competitve and with the no. of branches they have, they do have the economy of scale to sell in big volume with lower margin.

I was at wingshing on Sat. A 40+ aged chubby guy that servered was very nice, explained to me the functions and gave me a few quotes of items I wanted to know. Finally got a SB-600 flash from him at HKD1780.

Lol, I believe shopping needs luck too, whether you meet a nice salesperson or just happen to ask someone who had a bad day or with a poor attitude.

I read a comment somewhere on the net that wingshing used to be a very friendly family store until its business started expanding bigger. But I guess its pretty common anywhere to meet unfrenly sales chaps, especially in big stores during busy times. :bsmilie:

Yes, I was weary at first also after reading some complaint about the in the Hkg forum. ONe thing, they only bring out the item for you to touch after you confirm your purchase. just their practice i guess.

if i buy lens from HK.. does it have warrantly? the same warranty as if bought in singapore?

For Sony, just bring the lens to the Sonystyle shops (there's one at Mongkok and also Causeway Bay) and they'll issue you an international warranty. It's what I do with all the lenses I sell.

thanks guys.. going hongkong soon to get some lenses!

my gf goin quan zhou for work. wonder there got cheap lens with international warranty? flight to xiamen by MI.:dunno:
