tks for the tip. cause i compare to my sigma 18-200 . both till 85mm range still ok . only till sigma 200mm range @ f6.3 cmi. different range cannot compare. maybe thinkin of sellin off 1785 IS. warranty still unfilled.or shld i sell my sigma then get 70-200 F4 IS? there i think ard 1.5k

70-200mm f/4IS is a good lens in terms of optics and IS is useful for panning. Low light situation need to use flash. iso 3200 and f/4 is can obtain shutter of 1/4 under low light situation is not useful..

Lens have international warranty.

As for compact cams, I am not sure but I do not think have international warranty.

Qing is right. They only carry "local" warranty (HK & Macau).

HK SLR warranty is 2 year instead of 1 year for the XXD series.. 1D series have only 1 year warranty..

Both Canon X0D and XX0D have 2 years warranty in HK.

For visitors not familiar with Hong Kong shops, I would suggest you stay away from Stanley. Go for the big shops such as Tin Cheung, Wing Sing and Man Sing. It is not worth saving extra few HK$ when the risk of getting cheated is high. If you think those shops in SLS is a jungle, HK has amazon awaits you. ;)

Its not that bad in Stanley street lah! But prices are generally lower in Kowloon (for many products)......

I would suggest to go to Wing Shing/Man Shing at Mongkok (Sai Yeung Choi street), they only sell with official warranty, no water goods. For water goods (export) you need to go to other smaller shops in TST (mainly)

In Singapore, you go to money changer to change foreign currencies but in Hong Kong, the banks have a much better rate than the money changers there. Of all the banks, Heng Seng Bank usually has the best rates. There is a preferential rate if you are an account holder of the bank.

1 to 5.59 seems reasonable rate to me. If you are not familiar with changing money in Hong Kong, it is best to change money here but you have to be careful with loads of money if you intend to BBB in HK.

Looking around in our B&S for a used 1DmkIII but nobody letting go. Think of going Hong Kong to purchase in May-June. Looking at prices in a few of the shops you guys recommended, its around HK$31,000 (which is S$5535 base on current SG ex rate). This is really tempting as S'pore selling at S$6500... $1k difference.

Hope by the time I go, prices will drop further ;).
Anyway, like to check with guys who buy from HK:

1) Anyone bought their DSLR from any of these shops before? Which is safer/can bargain?
2) Is it safe to change so much ... HK$31k and go there to buy?
3) If I use credit card will the price be different higher?
4) Confirm no tax for tourist right?

Thanks guys!

Anyone knows if I buy a lense in Hongkong, is the warranty card only to be registered at the HK Canon website or can it also be registered at the Singapore website?

anyone bought the Tamron 17-50mm lens there before?
i'm thinking of asking my friend who is going to HK to buy it there. From the price list it seems it's $100 cheaper than most second hand being sold here.
Heard that the warranty is international too.
