Safe to just go to Man Shing or Wing Shing. Convenient location, reputable and fixed pricing. They are amongst the lowest for most quotes I get. No credit card surcharge as well.

CitiCall is another outlet which is on the same street as Man Shing or Wing Shing ....

the exchange rate is higher than those rates @ money changer, if paying by credit card. Best is to pay by cash, can save up to 100bucks..

wow, ok ok, if i ever go there I will take note.. :) thanks

agree that the rates are not the most attractive. but i used uob cards when i'm overseas n the rates are actually not that bad if you are not spending a few thousand per trip with the card. e.g. they may change Thai baht 22.3 for each SGD whereas money changer give you 22.8. that's 1 baht difference for every 2 SGD u change...not too bad right?

i would not wan to carry so much cash with me anyway...so i think CC is still quite a safe n convenient way to shop overseas. of cos carry some cash for small purchases lar...

small purchases i wont mind the difference.. but if the difference is a few hundreds dollars i rather bring cash.. i had this experience in JP, 1 shop only accept cash sell the item 250SGD cheaper than another shop that accepts visa. I end up paying 250 + 80 ( credit card interest). I can save up to 1130 instead of only 800SGD.

Do we have to declare to custom at Spore airport when we bring the items back?
Not sure kena tax or not...

You can always withdraw cash using your ATM card overseas if the shop does not take CC. Rates are not bad (not as good as money changers) but then you don't end up bringing too much in case you don't buy ....

If you want to report tax, then you'll have to pay 7% GST.

My advise is either throw away the packaging and put your new purchase into your camera bag. Or bring a big enuff lugguage. You can fold the box into the lugguage.

Thanks alot for the advice.
Think the box is important if you decide to sell it in future.

I presume if they don't stop you, you don't have to declare. Just pretend that you bought it here is Singapore (provided they don't see the packaging).

u r allowed tax free shopping of a certain amount per adult who went overseas for more than 24 hours (more allowence if more than 48 hours, and exclude whole of Malaysia no matter how long you go).

most of the time they are ok with it as long as u declare it as for personal use. of course if they dun ask then just act blur and walk out lar...

I didn't even think about this... I'm making a trip to HK, can quote me a price on Profoto gear, or tell me of a shop that sells it??

these are the shops to note in HK..

once it's taken out and used for personal use, it should be considered your personal items. shouldn't matter if you bought it overseas. shouldn't have to pay tax. so enjoy your new purchase at the overseas place, add it to your camera bag as part of your personal possession, and walk throught the airport with a clear conscience.
