hhhmmm 580 EXII is selling at S$679.52, is this considered cheap in HK ? if it is den can consider getting a fren to buy it for me. But is there any hidden cost like warranty or something ? Enlighten me pls ....

Yesterday I saw a shop selling it at HK$29xx. Means close to SG$600. I didn't take note about the name of the shop but it's in Wanchai Computer Centre. I also didn't ask whether grey set or not. I am going back to Sg tmr for good but cant get anything cos no more time to pack my stuffs already.

I think it is all due to the size of the market. Singapore's market is definitely way smaller compares to HongKong's market. Being a larger market, they will be selling more units and thus they could aford to lower their profit margin, either through the dealer side or the supplier side.

That's what I will think so too.

I think a lot of us will go to HK to purchase. Even if you factor in air fare and accommodation, it's still way cheaper! $1000 difference is just too much to convince me to get a 5D here.

Canon accessories have International warrany unless the shops state otherwise. SLRs have local warranty from the country. 680 should have International warranty. without warranty should be cheaper. Last check i did bout 580EX II pricing is 650SGD.

If you speak like a hongkie or a mainland chinese, then can bargain more effetively.
Otherwise get a friend to do it.

Anyone can confirm the prices for Beijing? I thought I saw a thread saying that 1DMkIII only cost around S$6000 there? I'm going to Beijing next month and might consider to get something there.

Hong kong price is more than 7% better than SG. From my rough computation, around 20%. How to account for the 13%?:dunno:

their 5D is appx 3.2KSGD while SG is very much higher.. SG has gst cum import taxes incurred on the gds..

Careful of buying in China.. must be very cautious, buy from reputable shops..

Other than GST of 7%, HK's Corporate is only 17.5% and Singapore is more than 20%.

However after minus everything Singapore camera still cost much more.

Can we get international warranty from HK?

I afraid not.. Warranty is only local within the country itself. Only the lens and accessories have international warranty upon purchasing the item unless it's a grey set..

haha international economics... they can charge lower in hk, n subsidise it by charging higher in sg..

anyway the 16-35 is about 2060, going by exchange rate of 5:1, which isnt much cheaper than sg rite? not sure worth the trouble or not

Have to find the shop with the best prices in HK, there are many shops in HK..

Safe to just go to Man Shing or Wing Shing. Convenient location, reputable and fixed pricing. They are amongst the lowest for most quotes I get. No credit card surcharge as well.

sorry if this question seems noob..

if you pay by credit card in HK, is there still the monthly installment? Cos i heard monthly installments are only for the local population..

not sure wat cards you are referring to...but UOB cards can convert into installments no matter where you spent. have to pay 3% (3 or 6 months installment) or 5% (12 months) 'admin' fee with the 1st installment payment though.

the exchange rate is higher than those rates @ money changer, if paying by credit card. Best is to pay by cash, can save up to 100bucks..
