Thanks CS Tan for the wonderful guide...

Btw, I'll be traveling to HK for the first time in Dec - Jan, and is considering buying a tripod from there. If I stay in Kowloon, where could I find the widest range of tripods? Also is there a pricelist of tripod in HK as those available here are mostly for Camera and lenses?

Thanks very much for the advise. :)

you can go Tin Cheung.

Am currently in hong kong mira hotel.

Spend the last 3 hours buying my camera things.

Echo photo was a big disappointment, mr yip wasn't around...

Don't have the nikon 50mm 1.4g that i wanted.
Don't have the nikon 17-55mm 2.8 that I wanted...

End up going around mongkok to get my gear.

Damage in 3 hours.
-------------------------------------------------
Nikon 50mm 1.4G - 3,880 from broadway.

Nikon 17-55 2.8G - 9,780 from Wing Shing photo.

Nikon SB 600 - 1,950 from Wing Shing photo.

B+W 58mm UV Haze MRC and B+W 77mm UV Haze MRC - the 2 filters for 1,060 from Cam 2 Coxell. These are hard to get. Most stores i went didn't have stock for this.

-------------------------------------------------

As for bargaining... My bargaining skills sucks... It's was drizzling light rain the whole rain. Didn't want to travel too far to check price.

I was trying to get this maxim almond flakes. But I don't know where to get them... Anyone knows where is the location? I am leaving on Sunday, hope to get them soon.

there is a maxim shop at mongkok MTR station. :)

I don't have good things to say about Tin Cheung. See my post #202.

Me either but comes to tripod wise they have the most selection among shops i went to.

Sorry was not clear In my earlier post. Canon lenses at Wing Shing still has international warranty. That was as at 5th Nov. Not sure how many more they have but I don't think it is many.

Bought an 85mm f 1.2 & 24-105 F 4. Enquired for a 50mm 1.4. All had international warranty.

Just an update for those who is thinking of heading to HK for Canon Lenses.

Thanks all. In that case, do Wing Shing / Man Shing have good enough selection? I am in favour of a Benro tripodnow.

Cheers. :)

there is a benro distributor/service center at Sham Shui Po area... not sure if the price will be good but i got my martin camera strap from them at a good price. can't rem the exact location but i know if near one of the MTR exits. Happened to chance upon this place when i go there for shoots during my HK trip.

by the way they also have a fair collection of camera bags upstairs... they also sell billingham bags but i forgot how the prices is like.

Hi,

I saw some of the shops as suggested by CS Tan, which sells 2nd equipment.

I was wondering,
1. if it is safe/reliable to get 2nd bodies, like 5D (2nd hand) from them?
2. which shops enjoys good reputation for reliable 2nd stuff?
3. if resale prices are generally reasonable (as compared to Clubsnap B&S section)

I understand my questions may sound very subjective, but I hope to find some info as I'll be dropping by HK next weekend.

------------------------------------------------------
Just to add, my previous shopping @echophoto has been a pleasant experience with the following stuff like 5D2 & sigma 30mm from them. You may call Mr Yip to give you quote, then when you reach there, you may tell the other uncles that Mr Yip gave you the special price if Yip-san himself is not around.

DC Wave @Sim City in Mongkok also carries reasonably cheap canon products, i.e. gotten my 430EX, 580EX2, EF 50mm & EF85mm & EOS40D from them before.

Cheers
Eric

Just got a call from Canon. They will honour the warranty with or without the stamp on the warranty card if you have a valid receipt. ;)

can say it a million times and im starting it now, Thanks CS Tan for creating this thread.

Echo Photo & Tin Cheung are getting good feedback from this forum, does anybody have any issues from the items bought from them? Just want to know how they handle after sales service.

i dun think they will handle after sales... i thought its handled by the manufactor, eg Canon?

You are not wrong. Cheung Sha Wan Road is in Sham Shui Po area. The place is right next to Sham Shui Po MTR station actually.

That's great news

Anyway the receipt shd show the lens serial no. so it is not exactly something you can forge easily.

It will be pathetic for a manufacturer to decline cover on the basis of no chop.

CSC explained to me that it is a matter of formality. After they service our lens, they need to get reimbursed by HK CSC since Canon HK got the profit from the sale of the lens. If they can get reimbursed, then they will gladly service the lens.

Sorry, not really meant for after sales service but does those 2 shops offer 7days return policy just like the other shops in HK? I'm planning to buy Sigma Lenses and we all know Sigma has some issues on focusing. Just want to make sure i will be getting good copies rather than going to manufacturer for calibration.
