I'm sure most of you know this site already.... just thought i put it here to add on to the HK camera buying resources

Just type in what you're looking for and should get a whole list of results of shops and prices.... if u cannot read chinese just print out the list and bring with you in HK and ask some kind soul to translate it when you're there

Price.com.HK
Thanks ed, actually I have already planned to add this link in when I do an update to the shopping guide later. First, I will need to get access to the edit rights in this section...

On top of the excellent Price.com.hk site, there is another hk camera price guide here:
http://www.ygdragon.net/index.php?page=photo/cameraprice.htm

Price.com.hk will tell you if the price refers to grey sets or warranty sets. So that is the plus. But it doesn't hurt to have another reference.

To CS Tan, there's not much more "Thank You" I can add that the others have not, for providing all this great tips and intel for Camera shopping in HK. So just another voice in the sea of Thanks...to you.

For those that have gone before, are there good places to get Think Tank and Joby Gorillapod stuff? Were the prices better than Singapore?

Cheers.

Interesting. I dun have a good experience with Tin Cheung when I was in HK last week. In fact the price quoted to me by Citicall (near Mongkok MTR branch, the bigger store) is better then Tin Chueng, there is no extra charge if I charge by card and they even round down to the nearest dollar to give me a small discount.

But Tin Chueng insisted that I pay extra 2% for credit card charge and they don't give discount also. Service wise, quite medicore to me as compared to the guy who served me at Citicall.

And the lens + flash I bought at Citicall came with international warranty card.

Btw I am referring to both Tin Chueng branch (the one at Sim City and the one at TST).

I bought 2 lens + 2 flash in Citicall and asked to split up to 3 receipts as well (since buying for friends). :)

hi senior member, need your advice.
I have got a quote for Nikon D90 + 18~105 lens package (with free gift for UV filter, carring bag, 4GBSD, tripot+ cleaning tools) for RMB4800. this is "water goods" from HongKong. The package come with warrenty card but NO receipt from the or a HongKong shop.

my question is; should I not claim 1 warrenty from NSC, after the warrenty period, can I still go back to them for pay service? Will they service my camera body.

with the currency exchange rate between S$ and RMB$ (1:5.03) this unit cost less than S$1000 (very very attractive to me).

Currently I'm working in China Beijing and will be return to Singapore in Dec 2010.

After the warranty period expires, the customer service centre will charge for repair service. Not sure about SG Nikon service centre. I do understand Canon HK will give discount for repair service if your unit has a Canon HK warranty card even if it has expired.

But to answer your question, you should not have problem getting your camera service in SG Nikon SC.

Was in Mongkok last nite with a friend - was here for work on holiday. Friend ended buying a Canon 430EXII flash and Canon 18-135 EFS lens at Sim City saving almost S$270 for the combination as compared to Singapore pricing.

As for me, tempted to buy Canon 70-200 2.8L IS MKII but it was completely sold out in all the shops there. Stocks will probably arrive next week but will not be time as I am leaving this weekend. We visited DC Fever, Citicall, Tin Cheung, Wing Cheung, Broadway and many others.

Thanks to CS Tan for providing all the infor. Mongkok is a really a great place to shop.

Have you tried Cam2? I thought I saw one in Sim City this Monday. They can also check their stock within their branches and transfer the lens to a specific branch.

Hi CS,

Thank you once again. Will try to check with Cam2 today. A few of the shops have got the boxes displayed but it is just the empty box, no lens available :(

Going in Dec with my family and dun think I got the leisure time to shop just for my lens. Prepare to add Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 which thru webby, should save $200.

Not really gonna rush n BBB but is doing some studies and comparsion. Done a Excel sheet HK$ vs S$ too.. hahaa

Now gonna C where is Citicall in Mongkok

Went to Mongkok again yesterday evening and finally managed to buy the 70-200 2.8MKII at Citicall for HK$17400 paid with credit card and with international warranty. Accorrding to the salesman there, after Oct, all new stocks will come without international warranty. This lens is hot there, only 2 set there when I was there and while I was testing it with my 5dMKII, another customers walked in, took a look at the other set, paid for it and walked off.

If I'm not mistaken, Tokina 11-16 is out of stock everywhere in HK. At least that was the case when I went there last May. The guy at Tin Cheung told me the 11-16 is out of stock nationwide. I ended up getting my tokina 11-16 in Jakarta for Rp. 5.65 million (S$840). I doubt you can get the lens at that price even in HK. And it comes with 1 yr warranty from the distributor. But that price was the special price only for last month, and I believe the lens is sold out now. I guess I was lucky.

Btw I'm in HK right now and I got myself a very nice camera bag, Herringbone, from Tin Cheung. The price is a lot lower than the one posted on their website. But it's very, very hard to bargain at Tin Cheung. I've bought many stuff from them before, and I was never really successful in bargaining.

Wahahaa.... That lens I'm holding-on till this HK trip. If cannot get, will be very disappointed. Now must redo all my research and see what other I want. Newbies here, u know :sweat:

BTW, thanks CS TAN for such an informative link in CS. KumSia.:thumbsup:

this one i agree haha.

this one i agree haha.

Whenever I tried to bargain, the guy would just answer, "NO!" as if he wasn't interested in selling if the price is lower even by a little bit :what:

I bought from Echo before, never have a chance to meet Mr. Yip (boss) as he was off that day. However, their price is quite fair/reasonable and cheaper than Tin Chueng, Wing Sheng, Man Sheng. Maybe it is a small shop, thus can give better price.

printed the list of shop from page 1-2(took me 12 page and i only print the shop name with stars on it lol :p) + noted all the newest local price in sg for my trip to HK at 5 oct, looking for either sigma 24-70 f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 or tamron 28-75 f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 or just canon 24-105L + flash :D, will check around mongkok as highly adviced by all bros and TS, thx for the info you guys share here, keep em coming, will share my experience also when i'm back :D
