Ratings based on various Internet sources:

★★★ Highly recommended
★★ Recommended

Note: the recommended shops are rated by:
[1] range of products,
[2] competitive price, and
[3] trustworthiness.

For the less adventurous buyers, you can just stick with the ★★★ and ★★ shops. However, there are quite a few specialty shops awaiting for the braves especially those shops selling 2nd hand equipments.

To help you locate the popular stores more easily, I have added Google Maps links to some of them. Click on the
googlemapslogo.gif
logo besides each store name and you will be able to get to the exact location directly.

Caveat emptor - Buyer Beware.

Happy shopping!

The shopping guide is now ready. Hope this will help the CSers who are planning to visit HK.

This must be the most comprehensive quide to HK digital shopping!
You are the best!

I would like to thanks CS TAN for this very very great work. A lot efford.:thumbsup:

Guess I might closed my thread ;p
Anyway, I would like to add that, it is easier to call them to check for stocks before heading down. Especially useful if you could speaks (broken) cantonese. Though, some shops do not disclose the price through phone call (e.g. Man Shing).

Most of the shops will not disclose the price through telephone because they are afraid the competitor will use this info to undercut them. But, if you are short of time, you should call and ask whether the stock is available. Lately, due to the economy slow down, camera manufacturers have pull back on production and they might not have the item you are looking for. Call ahead to check rather than get disappointed when you are at the shop.

CS Tan

Thanks for this guide. This helpful even for me that is based out of HK. Do you know of any rental shops in HK? I would like to rent both Canon and Nikon DSLR to play before deciding on one. I only know of rent a pro at Wanchai.

Regards

I have not use any rental service in HK. However, one of my friend has rented lenses with this online shop http://www.cartcart.com.hk/rental-charge

You can take a look.

I am glad the guide is able to help people visiting HK.

Do feel free to provide updates since the list might get outdated pretty soon since HK shops tends to move around quite often. I will try to put these changes in the guide to keep it updated.

Cheers.

Great work CS TAN !
I lived in HK before, I can tell this guide is really awesome !

Went from last sat to yest, i must say the info is 99% accurate.. Their Citicall/Broadway/Fortress are like our Harvey Norman/Best Denki etc..

Wing SHing/Tin Cheung/ Man SHing is the best

Love the 2nd hand shops as well as there's a comprehensive range of used equipments at very attractive prices.. :)

Hey guys, just to let everyone know that my family and I will be moving back to Hong Kong around middle of this year. Just like 12 years ago when the company I work for moved its HQ from HK to Singapore, I moved to Singapore at that time and has enjoyed my stay here tremendously. This time around, the HQ has been moved to Shanghai. However, I am able to convince my boss it will be better for me to stay in HK and travel to Shanghai instead of staying there (cost justifications). This most likely will be my last move before retirement so it works out for me to be able to settle back in Hong Kong.

This is not a goodbye as I intend to stay in touch with all the ClubSnappers here. One benefit that comes out of it is that I will be much closer to the HK photography scene and be able to keep update of this little shopping guide more accurately and frequently.

Once my family and I have settle down, I plan to work on special reports of various HK photo stores (start with the larger ones) and provide some in depth reporting regarding their specialties and history. So, please stay tune for these feature reports here.

As I said this is not a goodbye and I am more than happy to continue to help out fellow ClubSnappers on whatever questions you have regarding shopping for camera gears in HK. Happy shopping. Cheers.

wow! just what i am looking for..shall print this out for my trip to HK in Jun. Thanks!
