Where should I register my products after the purchase?

Naturally, after your purchases, you would want to register your products online with the manufacturer. E.g. after I purchased a Canon lens, where should I register online? Should it be Canon Singapore? Or, should it be Canon Hong Kong?

Well, look at your Canon international warranty card; does it say Canon Hong Kong or Canon Singapore? For products sold by Canon Hong Kong, you will have to register online with Canon Hong Kong. The registration process will go through certain verification so you know you have a genuine Canon Hong Kong product after successfully register with them.

In some rare cases, the online registration might fail. Don’t be alarm; all you need to do is to scan your warranty card and the original receipt and follow the instruction to email the manufacturer. They should get back to you within 1-2 days and you should be able to register without further problem.

Nikon Hong Kong Online Registration goes to HERE

hi cstan... thanks for all the info here :) just want to confirm, if it says Nikon HK, means I have to register in Nikon HK website? haha i always thot if I have the warranty card and receipt, I just show it to Spore's NSC when I run into problem? That means If i dun register, I dun enjoy warranty service? Are all info link between Nikokn HK and Spore?

Also want to ask u on ur experiences in the shops u recommended. Just thought in big shops like wing sing, man sing etc.. would prices be more difficult to nego as compared to a smaller shop like echo, and maybe feel more intimidated? :embrass:Do u have experiences to share?

You don't have to register if you do not intend to bring the item back to Nikon Hong Kong to claim warranty service. If you just want Nikon Singapore's service, bring back the international warranty card and the original receipt. That will already be enough to claim warranty in Singapore. Usually, the two countries will not share their database as the authorized distributor from each country might be from different companies.

There is no guarantee that the smaller shops will provide you with a lower quote. All you can do is to ask around to get the best quote. Normally, for items that are above S$2k, there might be slight room for negotiation. The store's quote usually is for credit card payment so if you ask for cash payment, perhaps you can get a better price.

thanks :) i will post some comments here when i am back to let others know my buying experience. (not running foul of some rules here lah hor? :p)

would it be safest to buy from the canon showroom? any idea what comes with the eos 500d? thanks bro

I don't think it is advisable to buy from HK Canon showroom. If you do, you will be paying Suggested Retail Price rather than the street price. The HK RRP should be higher than Singapore's street price. In that case, you will be better off getting your 500D from Singapore as the Singapore local set also carries the 15 months (12+3) Singapore warranty.

thank you very much for the compilation CS! will be traveling to HK this weekend and me and my frens will prob checkout G11 and S10 and DSLR lenses/accessories... hope we get a good kill! :bsmilie:

thank you for this fantastic and comprehensive guide.

my friend would be going to hong kong this weekend. i might be geting him to buy one or two lens back.

based on the guide by ygdragon.net, it seems there are only some lens "worth" buying due to the difference in saving. guess he has to asked around various shops for the lens.

I bought a Nikon lens in China, registered it in Nikon Club Singapore website. And it informed me a few days later that my registration of the product for eWarranty has been accepted. So go ahead and register with confidence. remember to keep your receipt and warranty card.

Looks like quite a few of us are planning to be in Hong Kong later this month or early next month. BTW, I will also be in Hong Kong for 2 weeks later in the month to plan my relocation. Might run into some of you in the shops. Happy shopping...

Think anyone going soon (and coming back not too long :bsmilie: after) and can help me get my 580EX II as suggested by CS TAN? haha!

Wow ! A great 2 pages worth of great information for us here !! Well done ! I'm sure this will help those who are visiting in HK.

Anyway, talking about HK, I really miss the streets there, the HK Actors and Actresses seen in Drama series, the cool weather, and last is the FOOD !. Tea Cafe which I can't miss is the Cheese Bake Rice, Milk Tea, Roasted Delights such as Pigeons with RICE ! Also, this place is a good chance for me to practice my Cantonese dialects, talking to the people there.. friendly.. Street Shooting.. lots of things I missed from my last visit last Dec. I really wanna go there now ! haha:)

Hi all

I went to HK last mth to get some lens

Went to echo photo at tst ( just opposite hmv ) and citicall to get my lens

if you go to echo, look for mr yip. he's a friendly old chap. not pushy to ask me get things. if you are sure you would be getting something, try to bring hard cash along. the extra charge is 2.1% for credit card charge. And the rate used is not so attractive for credit card. it makes the diff if you get your lens at a much lower price or not. also do remind him to write you a receipt for the warranty. he didnt give until i asked for it.

he also volunteered to get some lens when it is not avaliable in his store.

on the overall a good experience. ;)

Hi,

I am going to HK and plan to get some camera stuff

Is it a common practise for shop owners to charge extra for Credit Card payments?

TIA

Hi all,

I just came back from HK today, shopping for my Nikkor lens and thought maybe I can share some experiences with all.

I went to Wing Shing, Citicall and Broadway in Mongkok to ask for prices. The common thing among all of them is that there are NO cash prices. Maybe it's just Mongkok, but the stark similarity was quite apparent. And interestingly, when I ask for credit card prices, they say payment by credit card is the same as payment by cash, ie same price for both cash and credit card. Ultimately, I did buy from Broadway and was ensured international warranty (card from Nikon Hong Kong, serial numbers matched etc).

Yet to register my warranty though, but just a passing mention that Broadway appeared to be a very reliable electronics chain in Hong Kong. Service wasnt top quality per se, but the transaction was very clinical and the salesperson did ensure that I could test and be satisfied with my buy. He even coached me on a couple of things after I asked some questions.

So I would encourage you to go on to Mongkok and ask for prices yourself. It is probably better if you bring cash for your purchase, but do be open to credit card payments too given that our local banks are all offering rebates etc.

Hope it all helps, but I did learn a great deal from this thread. Thanks TS!

For the chain electronic stores such as Broadway, Citicall, Chung Yuen or Fortress, you can always negotiate down on the price if you pay cash. May not be much but usually I will get at least HK$50 off for a $10,000 item. The credit card's exchange rate is always quite high.

I would like to thanks CS TAN for this really awesome shopping guide and for his great work and effort. Hope the relocation went smoothly.:)

I will be travelling to HK on Monday for Nikon lenses and accessories shopping.;)
