High speed rail to KL

I was referring to travelling time with the aforementioned "first train ... across the island ..." being our MRT from Pasir Ris MRT Station (EW1) to Joo Koon MRT Station (EW29) and vice versa.

But yes, there is also a significant community of Singaporeans residing in Johor Bahru (JB) with their own dedicated association and forums.

Significant is subjective. Significant enough to cause housing prices to crash? I seriously doubt so.

With the new population forecast, prices in Sin will not crash. However, I have heard of quite of lot of Singaporeans buying properties near Iskanda. Half the price, double the size.

Well, I wasn't the one who brought up anything on housing or property crash just referring to travelling time alone since you mentioned not many will "wake up at 5-6 am to get to work by 8.30 am" which in fact many do.

I think high speed train is way better than air plane. The waiting time for air travel is too long. You need to be at the air port 90 mins in advance, wait for boarding, wait for luggage,...
Last time I boarded a Shinkansen the waiting time is almost same as normal MRT. In fact, I arrived 10 minutes earlier and boarded the wrong train because I thought train would wait for 10 mins or so. It only waited for 2 minutes for you to get on the train with your luggage, sit tight and feel like taking MRT with dedicated chairs.

It only waited for 2 minutes for you to get on the train with your luggage, sit tight and feel like taking MRT with dedicated chairs.

We still do not know how frequent this service will be and it will be only in 2020 or later....

Just a bit concern about the safety of the train though......

Yes, from what I've seen for a comparable example, most Londoners are more than happy to take the Eurostar to Paris as opposed to travelling to Heathrow or Gatwick or Stansted Airports, checking in early... Wait for queue to take-off, land at CDG Paris, before taking a train into the heart of Paris. For shorter distances a train tends to make more sense.

If they have trolly dollies in hugging kabaya in the new train, maybe you will have the same special feeling. Nowadays train rides are very comfortable, much better than our 20 year old East West line.

I can only see better prospects for Malaysia in their properties, businesses & Genting. Was reading the Star just now & they're targetting stations in Iskandar, Muar, Batu Gajah (Melaka) & Seremban before KL. Costs estimated to be Rm60-80 billion including land acquisition.

It'll be awesome if we can have an hourly train from either sides but tickets should cost S$200+/-. Currently, the KLIA Express railway operates between airport & KL Sentral is RM70, two ways & takes 28mins or so. Fast, stress-free so it can be done. They say it does 160km/h.

For passport clearing they already have MACs which i'm using so no more stamping & I'm sure it'll be further eased in future.

Only problem is delivery & quality as there's plenty of faith in their corruption :bsmilie:

That's true, I've driven & flew between cities in EU+UK & the Eurostar/TGV are very efficient. Furthermore, fuel is very expensive in UK. IndoChina should be connected by a similar railway in future for progress.

Although it is a technical wonder, I think this is an example of man trying to be too smart and tempting nature (to destroy it).

It is not necessary in the first place.

An undersea tunnel is subject to constant stresses and danger of sea water ingress at high pressures.
Any crack is a death sentence for hundreds of train passengers.

Trying to rescue a disaster-struck train in an undersea tunnel is near-impossible.

The UK-France undersea rail tunnel is also a sitting duck for would be suicide terrorists.
