Welcome here & in RFF.:)

Oops...threadstarter is infected by "Poison #1"

Welcome raytoei.

The focusing viewfinder on the iiif is indeed very close to the 135mm frame line. You will get excess image on the top and the bottom which will not be in your image. Best is to get a dedicated viewfinder. There are many cheap 135mm viewfinders around and it's not actually a much sought after focal length. Alternatively, get a zoom finder that goes from 28 to 135/200mm. Then you'll not have to worry about any other lens you get for your barnack Leica.

Cheers,

Now infected by "Poison #2" too.

Wait till "Poison #3" to be in and you will be totally "cured"!:bsmilie:

Welcome to RF & compacts! Look forward to more pictures from you.

Welcome to the Poison Club
:)

Thanks for all the encouragement!

Hope to learn from you guys.

This is a beauty shot I made last week. Note the Filter on the Elmar collapsible, this darn thing will only fit the Elmar, not the elmar copy I-50 or the Summaron.

The light meter in the background is the Zeiss Ikon Ikophot.

The calculator is the HP 12-C.

Focus & take metering from the centre then reframe your shot & set metering manually.

Or focus, make use of AE lock, reframe your subject.

Welcome to CS.... I'm sure you will be richer in your experience mixing with the folks here. :bsmilie:

You just need to focus in the patch then reframe the shot; so long as you did not move the camera drastically back or forth, the subject would still be in focus. This applies to almost every camera too :)

Metering wise, you either have the set it manually or lock it when you are focusing on the subject.

Pikapig,

Most people collect different types of cameras so that the collective experience is richer. I am suffering from "Noah's Syndrome", I seem to be collecting two of each type. I am only half-joking. If I can psycho-analyse myself through this collection, I will be tempted to say that I am obsessive-compulsive.

btw, i hear very good comments about the GSN. Yashica seem to be quite a cult-camera, eg. Terry Richardson and his T4.

cheers!

Hi all,

thanks for the tips...as im so used to DSLr...my first trip which is yest w my yashica was rather terrible..my batt was flat..so i got to go get 2 LR44...then...i realli had a hard time to try...by e way, the viewfinder is not connected to lens..so how do we know abt the focusing?

unlike dslr..u can see a red dot...rangefinder don..so we assume...its focus..and yashica is famous for its super soft shutter button..haha..does half press even work?
at least the meter is working fine for me...:)

Hi Ray...

haha the price is so tempting i think i might also collect more than each if i have the capability..

yup..i got it for the aperture priority and the f1.7, but its a camera w alot of fault..so when u buy, go for one that is in gd condition rather than buying a cheap one where u might need to CLA.....my house is stocked up w lots of films now...:)

There are a few ways to focus the rangefinder; you can basically look into the viewfinder and snap when the two images become one or focus based on the distance between you and the subject. For the latter, you can use the distance scale on the camera.

Don't worry. This is considered to be very mild. Not even a reason to be concerned.

Cheers,

And that coming from the master of multiple Canon lens, with at least 6-7 copies of the same type lens.

nah.....that's sith lord hacker....;p

No! It's benny! Our Canon guru is the one that has multiple copies of the same lens in different variants.
Hacker is the expensive taste one! And makes lots of money re-selling lenses!:bsmilie::bsmilie:
