frankly better to get a low-end DSLR than a high-end prosumer. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have gotten my G5.

har?.. dslr also need memory card mah..

dslr also need tripod..

dslr also need $ to buy lens..

both need memory card of cos and tripod too
well you can start with kit lens first

he is trying to say a top model prosumer cam is around the same price with a low end DSLR
so why go for prosumer
only good point i can think of is you cant buy any lens to change so no need to think about this and save money but then this is also the bad point ... :dunno:

bad point as in i'll be stuck with the lens as long as i use e cam right?.. i understand ler.. low end DSLR, like?.. i wouldnt mind a 300d :P

Well, the good thing is of course that you can get a better lens to produce better image, when you know what specifically you want to shoot. Even though a prosumer camera may be like a multiple function camera, most probably you'll end up paying for a lot of functions that you don't need. I mean, seriously, how many people actually uses the video-taking function? How many times do people actually do time-lapse photography? And when you have a better knowledge of photography, would you still want to stick to the user-friendly modes??

Anyway, there's also nothing wrong with sticking to one lens. I'm personally shooting with only one prime lens. That will force you to think more and move more, and may make you a better photographer.

Having said all those however, photography is ultimately an artform. Don't end up to be gearheads (like us), and forget about the joy of making great pictures and telling great stories. Go with any camera you wish. As long as you're comfortable with it, you'll produce great pictures. Heck! Even the LOMO cameras could produce great pictures too!!
