Lesson 1 - hazy day is a good time to take sunrays in the forest at about 11am. Also good chance to capture the round setting sun in the evening, 6.30pm.

SPRING???? Sorri didn't realise that you are not local.

I use manual mode. Take reading off the rays using spot metering. Ya I use tripod. For parameters like ISO and F-stop just play with different combinations.

Spot (Partial) Metering
Spot metering allows you to meter the subject in the center of the frame (or on some cameras at the selected AF point). Only a small area of the whole frame is metered and the exposure of the rest of the frame is ignored. This type of metering is useful for brightly backlit, macro, and moon shots.

forget abt playing with iso... S1 noise is pretty high.... higher iso will result in more noise...unlesss u know how to remove noise

Your cam might not have metering mode for u to choose.
Try Aperture priority AE with F8, ISO50 for a start.
Without tripod then U can try ISO200.

hi guys,i am also quite new here.i usually use auto mode to take pics as a press on the button and the pics will be taken. i wonder how u pros use manual mode to take pics as it need some time to set ur desire aperture and shutter speed. if u said that it is because of experience,eg, a bird just flew past,going to dissapear,do u still use manual mode? :dunno:

Hello I don't shoot birds leh, not when they are flying. But let me hatam an answer to you:

If I am in maual mode I will use panning to follow the bird.

BTW I dare not claim to be expert in shooting flying birds - I shoot most of them in JBP.

There is a old saying: f8, be there.

That's almost sum up all liao, but that was Tri-X day, (many many years ago)


What we need, is to learn is to plan before you shoot, the more you know your equipment, the less time you are ready to click.

Btw, is nothing wrong to shoot in P mode

My cam ah...has those manual mode like P,TV,AV,M and C lah....I know how to set the aperture and ISO just dunno when to set and for what to set loh.

i'm not sure about ixus, but i believe ixus have some modes like sports/portraits/night scenes right? these modes are something similiar to what the rest are talking about, its just that you have lesser control.

but then again, no one says that only pp who knows these technical jargon and uses big cameras will produce good photos, so just have fun in the process girl! =)
