Hello everyone,

this is my first post to your forum. I have recently aquired a new Konica Hexar RF. I have been using a Olympus OM4 for the last 20 years and more recently a Contax T3. The Olympus is now retired.

I have always purchased a "protection" filter usually a UV or Skylight type and have been looking at the Heliopan range for the Hexar RF as they make a 40.5mm fit for the Konica lenses.

Can any forum members suggest which is preferable the UV or Skylight and if they think the Heliopan is up to the job??

Many thanks

Tim

I cant really tell the difference but I always have a UV filter on my lenses. 40.5mm filters are mighty expensive and hard to come by due to their size and a different pitch of thread (they're 0.5mm spacing between threads instead of the regular 1mm spacing on 42mm and larger filters onwards)

but Olympus does sell them (uv and cir-pl) for the 5060 digital cameras and they will fit your lens..... still best to bring your cam down to the shop to test its fit just in case.

another solution is to get a 40.5 step up to whatever larger size and use larger filters that r generally much more affordable

best of luck

Heliopan filters are made from Zeiss glass and it is made in Germany. It is a very high quality product.
I use one for my Leica 90mm Elmarit myself and I am pleased with it. :)

Meatboy,

What lens do you use for your Hexar?

Hi XXX Boy,

I purchased the Konica kit with body and Konica 50mm f2 lens. I guess I will add lenses eventually, but for now I am happy to exploit the 50mm and try to make images instead of a collection of equipment.

XXX Boy I see you use some of Leitz's finest, have you tried them on a Hexar at all?

Hexar RF is like a Leica M7 with Motor-M!!!
Konica 50mm f2 is better than my 1974 Leitz's 50 Summicron due to newer coating technology!!!
I owned a 90 Elmarit (very old model, made in Canada) too.
Anyway, I would suggest you to get old Leica lenses, cheaper and good!!!
A 90 Elmarit is a must for your Hexar RF!!!
I have yet to try it on a Hexar body coz I dun own one, care enough to let me try it on your body? ;p

To answer your question, UV is better. Skylight filter somehow have a pinkish cast on it.
