Since beginning of Sep, emjay said they are waiting for parts. Very sian, its a wonderful lens to shoot with and I missed having it for a heck of a lot of events.

Raw materials to a Japanese company. I wonder if China differentiates between Japanese factories in other countries and in Japan itself. From the news, looks like more or mainlan Japan only. Any Pentax stuff still made in Japan today? I presume some of their premium optical assemblies should still be made there for final assembly elsewhere. I could be wrong.

well, first and foremost, exports of rare earths from China are not banned so any disruption is probably only temporary... i expect the tantrum throwing to ease up within the next few weeks, if it hasn't already cooled off.

secondly, the stoppage seems to be aimed at direct shipments to Japan, which is more enforceable. it is not possible to take aim at every single japanese company, or company with a japanese sounding name that's shipping to anywhere else but Japan.

thirdly, seasoned middlemen knows how to get their shipments out. its not exactly rocket science. if iran and north korea can get their uranium, centrifuges and missile parts, i don't see why japan can't get rare earth.

Based on how attractive Emjay tends to price their stuff, I am guessing only slightly more than the Kx price to differentiate between old and new model. For the K5 likely the same way. can always ask the diviner Master Feng for the expected prices :bsmilie: he can give you some accurate predictions!

I think that's because Samsung stuff tend to be at a premium but with so many competitors turning up, I think they are refocussed on increasing their market share now before the new guys show up. So not surprised if their prices fall. Pentax's street price in Singapore tend to be very reasonable, hence the scope for downward adjustment may be limited.

Awesome, focusing ring > zoom ring made it looked like manual lenses, although the built obviously isnt haha
