Hey, i'm new here and my friend wants to get a Holga Cfgn... i not sure what is it and i heard its uses a medium size film that it is quite diffcult to use? is it true? Can anybody please provide me with more information about Holgas?

Thanks.

Well....for starters Holga is actually a very simple camera and amazingly simple to use. I have 2 of those, one a Holga 120CFN and the other a Holga 120GN. I shall go into the details of those jargons later. Holga uses a 120 format (medium format) film although it can also be modified to use a 135 format film (again, I shall not go into that for now).

There are tonnes are resources out there on lomography but this is probably the first website you should start at: http://www.lomography.com/

The Holga is simple in the sense that there is really very few settings you can meddle around with. Shutter speed is fixed at 1/125. Only 2 apertures available f/8.0 (sunny) and f/11.0 (cloudy). So, in some ways it forces you to focus on your composition because there is really no settings for your to play with. And yes, focussing is by distance estimation.

I've done a lot of work with my Holga. You can check out the Lomography section in my blog - http://thegaleria.blogspot.com

Hope this helps.

holga is a very simple camera to use....just point and shoot...and its loads of fun.....i have one and i love it to death....

120mm film not hard to find. Can buy it from Cathay photos, Ruby, triple D just to name a few. Have to admit that it is not as common as your 35mm hence I tend to stock up on it to avoid repeated trips to the shop.

Disadvantages of it though are it can only give you 12 shots and it is expensive to develop and scan as compared to 35mm film. 13 dollars as compared to 8 dollars for 35mm film with up to 30 shots. Also depending on where you go to develop it, you may have to wait for up to a week to get your negs back.

Having said that, it is a camera that can give you fantastic results, it can also make you cry when all your rolls come back as rubbish.

the aperture is stuck at f/13.3. switching from sunny to cloudy makes no difference. open up your film back, turn the switch. nothing is done. as for shutter speed, it's about 1/100th of a second, but different holgas have different speeds because it all depends on how tight or loose your spring is.that said, holga is really really point and shoot. just load the film, shoot. the only thing you might be playing with is bulb exposures.

C - color

not that easy to find, gotta take cab.. not reachable by MTR, but by bus ok..

120CGFN at 310HKD
35mm adaptor at 60HKD
120 Fuji Superia 100 at 20HKD per roll
35mm Superia 400 at 18HKD per roll

But note, the holga packaging is not the original one. its like a OEM packaging.. but who cares.. its the same thing anyway..

what is a 35mm adaptor for? you mean to mount a 35mm film to fit the 120mm slot?

wee_ly: your answer actually can be found in the website mentioned by bro invisibl3. :D
anyway, you are right about 35mm film but getting the normal 35mm adaptor will need you to rewind your film in the dark after finishing your roll of film.

yea.. right.. gotta unload and rewind in the dark..

it comes in 2 models though..

the one u can expose the 35mm spocket.. the other just the plain one..
