Help us please. How to train wife/girlfriend/sister/mother...

What if your wife asked you to select the type of knitting tools that you might like, and insist that some of those with cutesy patterns might suit you! :bsmilie:

It is seriously "play the lute to a cow" 对牛弹琴, if the person dont hold any interest in that subject at all.

First, try to make her appreciate what is beautiful images and how does optimum image quality is essential to accomplish that in latter part.

Makes sense but since we are dealing with women, proceed with care. A woman would like nice photos but a small and light camera that she can put into her handbag is more important than good photos. That's why most are happy with a phone camera esp if it's an iPhone (because of brand and it looks nice). To convince her of better photos with a better/larger camera (XZ1 is considered large by most women who only want to take snapshots) will take some time. My suggestion - buy her what she wants.

I she complained it is too heavy. I let her tested GF2, EPL2, and EPL1 weight.

How to train them..? Send them to gym and work out the bicep. When you get stronger, in contrast, the camera become lighter.

they have gotta be stronger than that nsf's maid, else throw face.. 8)

This was what I did to my wife. Told her we need to do things together to have a more meaningful relationship.Bought her a white GF1 with 20mm f1.7 without her approval. Teach, coax and encourage her to use it. Always go thru with her all the photos she had taken. This is the most important part- Heap praises on her for the good photos she had taken! Correct her mistakes for the bad ones. Gradually, she will develop an interest. On the last outing, she used my GH1 with the 14-140mm but did complain about wrist pain but I praised her for the good effort. Next, I'll try to make her carry the Nikon D90! No need training. Use psychology!

use psychology and rewards. every 100 good pictures posted on CS that has 10 praises, you get her a LV bag. LOL !

Have a look at Sony NEX-5 and Panasonic GF-2??

I think one of those high end KATA, Lowepro or Think Tank would be more useful!

lol.. ladies prefer LV mah..

She said Nex-5 is heavier.
But I kind of cheated cos I let her try nex-5 with lense.
I am not supporting sony because they kill minolta.
I don't like a company with that kind of business attitude.
Also there are so few lense available with nex system so I wont bother.

And an LV bag cost $2000.....

Actually, even as a man I find most dSLRs too big, bulky, and heavy. I didn't buy the E-1 for that reason...I waited for the E-300 and settled on that, even though it too was too big, bulky, and heavy; I had been using an E-4xx sized film SLR for 20 years, and I was just used to the smaller size and lighter weight...but the E-400 wasn't due out for several years.

Just recently though I bought a used E-3 for cheap, not because I liked the size & weight of it (because I hate it), but because Olympus has all but abandoned FourThirds and I need a FourThirds camera to last until they release a new CONSUMER sized/weight FourThirds SLR again.

But just to comment about being a woman's issue, that's a sexist remark as many of the women I know use cameras that are bigger/heavier than the E-3 with a 300mm f/2.8 lens!

Haven't seen one. All the women I know, including Asians, Caucasians etc all carry p&s. Maybe it's the circle I mix with.

"a camera bag is for sure heavy. a LV bag with insert, to hold a Pen with pancake lens for sure is lighter."- Wong_se

Sorry, to digress. I bought a leather office sling bag in Tokyo a few years ago for $400+ and modified it into a camera bag. It can hold a GH1 with the 14-150mm plus spare batteries & SD cards. I don't like the idea of walking alone in a city, eg Bangkok, with an expensive-looking camera bag. It had served me well till today. LV- any Lowepro Vanguard combo on the market that looks like a LV?

Yes there are women photographers but women in general will not want to be inconvenienced by something they cannot put in a hand bag. The large bottle-shaped cellphones of yesteryears were used mainly by men. Cellphones really took off when they became smaller, more colourful, etc and women eventually bought more cellphones than men.

Get her the Nokia N8. Great camera, light & multi functional jus like the Swiss army knife

perhaps if its she that is taking the photo..it should be what sort of camera she wants?

it might come as a surprise to avid photographers like us but there are people out there, be it male or female, who are just not that interested in photography or would make do with a pns! ;)
