Help on Trip to Redang

I was just back from Redang 10 day ago and thought it was a very nice trip! We stayed at Lagoon resort and I love the beach, much better than the one at Tioman Island last time which have rocks all over the place. We booked packages for about S$298/twin room and S$288/triroom, transport/food/activities all inclusive. Suggest u take the twin room coz the other one has the same size just with one more bed. I dont know how good it is in Berjarya but it's fine for me at Lagoon coz basically i dont care much about bed/food when travelling as long as clean and safe.

The trip on bus was about 12 hours from S'pore, arriving at ferry at abt 10am the next morning. Speed boat was quite pleasant. Dont worry about sea sickness. This is not the season having too much wind. Actually I wish the trip on the sea could be longer.

Different from Tioman, you can see lots of fish very near the shore. Do prepare a coca bottle and pack it with bread. You can use it to attract fish. They are very willing to enjoy your bread but I was never able to catch a single one (oops I did try it!). At a corner there are many small sharks and I tried hard to catch them :bsmilie: but they were just too shy to play with me. I found I didn't need any mask or lifejacket to see the underwater world. A goggles was enough. At the beginning I was a bit nerverous, after a while became completely confident to swim in the open sea. My friends took some underwater pix but not very contrasty or sharp so you may try if haven't tried b4 otherwise forget it.

I was told Redang is newly developed so cleaner than Tioman. We tried to find the place where Summer Mo Mo Tea was shot. Drunk some coconut juice and took some pix with the Malay guys, hehe.

As I brought an image tank over so we were never short of storage space. We had 4 digicams in total and one SLR for slides. Its a pity i didnt get D60 a few days earlier otherwise...

Suggest u go off the beach to a rocky place. My friends took some very nice pix with blue sky/sea, golden rock/sun shine etc in the afternoon. Very sure you would have a wonderful trip, good luck and dont forget to post your best pix after you're back.

hanks for sharing your experience with me Tomshen.. I'm planin for a trip at this month end.. will definately post some pics.. till then.. thanks for all the help. ;)

Haha.. you guys won't believe this. I just booked myself a dive trip to Redang. Going during the Vesak Day weekend. Hope to equip myself with a wide angle lens before i go. *hiak* *hiak* *hiak*.

5 day dives, 2 night dives = S$450.00 - decent price.

My dive buddy just bought himself a Sony Digicam with Underwater housing, so i'll be sticking very closely to him. :)
The DiveMaster's got an Underwater housing for a videocam for rent. Tempting.

White sandy beaches and Clear blue skies, here i come!!

*rubbing hands*

wow, U lucky boy! Underwater digicam housing!

hey violett!! i'm sure you'll like it there
If you're going diving/snorkelling, definately the redang kalong!!!
If you just want to go kick back relax kind try the other resorts....very nice too.
redang kalong beach not very impressive but def better than east coast park haha.
the other side of the island with the other resort have nicer beaches and better scenery to take photos.

take more pictures hor!!!;p

Dun anyhow play play ah!!
Their mummy might just be around the corner u never know

Who knows WHO will be playing with who!!

You can try the resorts along Pasir Panjang Beach. They oversee the stretch of Pasir Panjang beach which is quite good. I tried staying at Redang Bay Resort before, the resort is quite good. They have a dive shop, karaoke room, video room, eating place(meals provided), provision shop and swimming pool(closed alreadi, poorly maintenanced). The beach infront of the resort is wonderful, they have a made-shift volley ball court(if you like beack volley ball) and you can feed fishes at waist level water. The bread for the fishes can be bought from the provision shop at RM$1 (that's in May 2000, prices may vary now). If you dive or snorkell further, you can somethimes see juvenile black tips reef sharks @ about 15ft.

just came back from Redang, was staying at Berjaya Beach Resort, it has it own private beach with less people than the ones at Pasir Panjang,

but its a smaller beach compared to the one in Pasir Panjang. much more expensive than those resorts in Pasir Panjang beach, but gives more privacy.

Here's how to get to Berjaya Resort

1. 10 hours on the bus from Kallang to KT bus terminal.
2. walk 10 minutes to shanbanddar Jetty for a 10 minutes bus transfer to chandering Jetty
3. followed by a 1hr 45 min ferry transfer to Redang
4. followed by a 10 minutes bus transfer to the resort

5. Finally

remember at the hawker center behind the bus interchange, very cheap and good food.

Shelly seafood stall 3A.
10 picece chicken satay only RM$3
1 sotong, wrapped in bananas leaf and chili, BBQ only RM$4.

solid!

if anyone wants to see how Berjaya Resort looks like, then I will post it. Its one of the most expensive there, but offer true resort accommendation.

Some cheaper ones in Pasir Panjang beach doesn't even have hot water shower.

Hello!

I went Redang during the Good Friday Week and i must say
that place is fantastic! very very beautiful!

If you are on a budget trip... i would suggest u not to book with a local agency... instead... call the resort itself and book from there.
For me... I booked at the Ayu Mayang Resort for S$314 for 3 day 2 nights including 1 beach dive and 3 boat dives. Ayu Mayang is also along the pasir panjang beach.

And to cut costs, my friends and I crossed the causeway taking 170 all the way to Larkin and taking the Coach from Larkin to KT.
For the VIP bus, it costed RM$33 for one way.

We saved really alot... but i must admit... it is more troublesome.

If u wan a more singaporean flavor, i can suggest the Redang Bay as there were many singaporeans staying there at the time.
It is a rather large resort with karoke, a lounge with SCV TV (for soccer fans). quite happening there.

Also got a beach pub near by...
:o :embrass:

hmm, i'm too lazy to take bus to jb and then change. besides its with my gf so convenience comes with a price. I'm still undecided about perhentian though. Anyone knows if that place is gd? My fren its much better than redang.

heard it isnt as commercalised as Redang so that's a good thing.
= P

rainyboy, $314 is per person or for the whole room S$314 3 days 2 night is quite cheap,

is per person...
yah... is cheap... cos of our tight budget...
so we went thru lots of extra trouble rather than
going the easy way and more $$ of calling an agent...

the price the resort quoted is RM628 each for room, full board plus the 4 dives...
quite shiok hor... =P

$314 plus diving is cheap.

Mine is $368 for the 3 days 2 night in Bejaya Redang Resort (per room basis, VISA card promotion)

plus $66 for bus ticket there and back (per person)

Total = S$500 for 2 person.

but no diving trip, only 2 breakfast and 1 dinner included.

Snokelling trip to marine park is RM$25 per pax
Snokelling trip round island is RM$60 per pax

is more ex at berjaya but the resort is more comfortable...
so got pros and cons...
= )

btw, is S$314 per person...
:o

y go thru all the trouble?

juz book at Gunung Raya at golden mile.. they'll settle everything for u...Berjaya Redang... $360 was the price i got last March... 5 days 4 nights. ;)

btw.. Berjaya service is top notch!! my frens wanted to extend their stay at the beach resort for 2 nites. but no more vacancy so they gave them 2 rooms at the golf resort.. and guess wat.. they waived off the entire accomodation fees and refunded them plus a letter of apology!! so they only paid for the coach!
