In the end, good photos is about content. The technical stuff is secondary to that.
Get the camera that best suits what you want to achieve. With modern day cameras, the gap between different systems are narrowing very fast. For 99% of users, any current camera models will work fine.
Yes i do agree with you.
But TS and others in similar positions need to understand as well some of the key technicalities so that they can make a better informed decision.
Else, their expectations might just be way higher than the results in the end
I have my eyes on a few cameras and I can't really make a decision out of the 3. Below is all the 3 models I'm looking at:
1. Sony A7/ 7R
2. Olympus OMD-EM1
3. Panasonic Lumix GX7
I know the A7 series is in a different category as compared to the other M4/3 but the pricing is within my budget with most the features one can ask for with that price.
Personally, I like to do more street photography, landscape and food shot. Portrait is not a necessity for me.
Any feedback and other recommendations are welcome!
For many people starting out, isn't that the case? Because so many think that better camera better lens equals better pictures..
They fail to realise it is the person behind the camera.
Kit lens will do fine. Once you are familiar with its capabilities (and limits) you will automatically know which other lens you might need.Which lens should I get for either system for the photography that I will be taking?
Thanks all the laojiao here for all the advises. Really appreciate your help.
Just got an hands-on on the Panasonic Lumix GX7 and was quite satisfied by it. Sadly, I couldn't get the body only. Going to try out the Olympus EM1 and compare the two again. Sony A7 is definitely out for now. Waiting to see their 2nd generation.
Any shops that I can demo the EM1 with a friendly uncle? Which lens should I get for either system for the photography that I will be taking?

You can go to the Courts Sale at Suntec today and tomorrow. They have an Olympus stand. There is an E-M1 with 12-40mm lens fitted for you to try out. The staff i/c was helpful and patient. Even run through procedure how to set Focus Peaking. Forgot to ask him about using the HDR function.
After pondering for so long, I still cannot seems to decide which camera (EM1 or GX7) to get. I like the size and handling of the GX7 but it has Optical Low Pass filter and the stabilization is not as good. The body is not weather sealed too. What I also like about the GX7 is that it is Made in Japan rather than Made in China like the EM1. The EM1 has 5-axis stabilization which is superb and it does not comes with Optical Low Pass filter and the body is weather sealed! Then again, the size of EM1 is like a DSLR and it is quite heavy with the 12-40mm lens. But seeing all the amazing and excellent reviews regarding this beast, one can't help but wanting to own this camera.
Is Optical Low Pass filter important? Are the lenses by Panasonic better? What lenses should I get for the GX7? Is the AF faster and better on GX7?
