There is this noisy (well, it is noisy to me...) 'cluck - cluck' sound when loading CD/DVD to the Macbook.

Is this normal or should I send for service?

Note: happens only during loading time (just after the CD/DVD is inside the drive), sounds like some gear mismatch in the mechanism trying to engage the disc or something.
after that everything sounds ok when reading/eject

can please share your experience and advise?

You must be new to Mac. :-) They all sound like they're chewing on the CD! Its normal.

Because there is nothing new, the slot loading drive has been in the market since, or earlier then 2001 (the time I got my Powerbook).

Well you paid good money indeed, but i guess its just the nature of the slot load drive, i doubt any sound proofing effort would be wise financially since its a minor problem... It will make your laptop heavier too.

No problem man. My Mac has never failed me despite being trashed around quite a bit, and for that, the Super "chicken" Drive is something i can overlook.

once the cd is inserted into the slot loading drive
the cluck cluck sound happens when the mechanism goes up and in the hole of the CD

it's normal and unavoidable for slot loading drives

i use an external drive to avoid this irritating sound.

New to Macs as well but I accepted it immediately, assuming it was a normal issue. Not the smartest thing though, as one should always check things up rather than assume.

Dear all Mac users,
I need ur advice badly. I am thinking of getting a laptop soon as mine is about half life. I've heard and seen the MAcbook pro core2 dual laptops, Are they really good for using adobephotoshop CS3?

I've read in CNet that the mac dun have a great screen resolution as some pc laptops and are slower in photoshop image editting. Is this the same case for the current mac book pro?

I am thinking of getting a HP Pavilion core2dual as well....

I'm confused, pls do give me your guidance.

Thanks!!
