Help- Anyone with similar experience? I had to push quite hard to slide the thumbs-up onto the hot shoe. After fitting it, I am having problems sliding it out when I wanted to use flash. Any suggestions on removing it without damaging the paint ? Black paint finish.

Hope someone can help before I consult Schmidt.

Take it easy, bro...is normal...your M9 still virgin la...:bsmilie:

It's normal

Tto take it out .. simply rock the thumps up left and right .. bit by bit while "pulling" it outwards .. slowly but surely it will come off ..

Cheers

Thanks for the advice, will give it a try.

Yes, I have the same issue with my M9 so I wrote to Tim Issac asking for advice. Here is his reply to my query.

"There is a recessed fingernail grip on the front edge of the Thumbs Up EP-1. You can pull straight back using the small edge. You may also wiggle the TU from side to side by holding the thumbs grip area.

For future installation, because M9 hot shoe is a tight fit, I recommend a single drop of light oil on the edge of the Thumbs Up. Wipe off any excess oil."

Hope this help.

Mine seems to be jammed. Tried all the above with negative results. Sigh.................
Really dont want to damage the paint, guess it will be a trip to Schimdt.

This is proven safe method to remove "thumb up".. i use this method to remove the tight thumb up....

A safe way to remove the thumb-ups without prying or dangerous M9 body harming method.

Get a cotton cloth ( soft yet strong) such as those from china made Swan brand singlets..
slide it single layer through from bottom up ie. from LCD screen direction upwards all the way into the thumb up body.

Once the cloth manages itself over into the right angle part of the thumb up. Now you can twist a couple turns of the cloth into a twill strong enough to strangle anything..

holding the M9 near the sides between the both ends of the thumb up with one hand... use the other hand holding the cotton cloth twill slow pull slowly but steadily and pop! it will come off..

very similar to using cable tie but much safer as the cloth is soft yet strong enough to yank the piece of the hot shoe slot.

don't use anything to pry the thumb up...

i did it twice and it works well without harming the body.. again you might need to always exercise caution and discretion when you yank the thumb up fixture out..slow and steady.

once u get it out, i suggest getting a #100 grit fine sanding cloth (which you can buy at any hardware store) to prime (check fit every 5 to 10 strokes) the thumbs-up to fit the hotshore more comfortably.... could be your piece was not finished properly leaving tiny amount of excess metal causing the tight fit....the allen screw should hold everything in place well enough

I had that on the M8.2 it fits snugly

Schmidt won't have anything good to say about unauthorised third party accessories. I spent quite a bit of time listening to the horror stories about users who came to them. And I believe they will NOT help you remove the Thumbs Up from the body.

Cheers,

Ok, noted, I am not aware of that.

But otherwise they had been very helpful each time I needed help, however small.

I think that is fair. :) so, ok, then for thumbs up no choice but to DIY.

Let me know if you still can't remove it. I will come over to your place and help. I've got my hammer, cold chisel, screwdriver and blowtorch if all else doesn't work.

My tools are all American made by SnapOn, so not to worry about me using inferior stuff.;);)

On a serious note, I can understand that you don't want to damage the camera removing the Thumbs Up. Send me a SMS and let me have a go, I'll be gentle.

Your American tool by force is no good for the German camera...why use force...some Vaseline...and the thumb-up will hands-up...:bsmilie:
